NNL: Osun Utd In Group A For Upcoming Season As Management Calls For Stakeholders Support

NNL: Osun Utd In Group A For Upcoming Season As Management Calls For Stakeholders Support

Osun Utd FC of Osun State has been drawn in Group A of the Southern Conference for the upcoming 2024-25 Nigeria National League (NNL) season scheduled to kickoff on Saturday, 30th November 2024.

Omoluabi Giants, narrowly missed promotion last season will play against eight other Clubs such as Sporting Lagos, 1472 FC of Lagos, Warri Wolves of Delta State, Solution FC of Awka, Anambra, Madiba FC of Lagos, Dakkada FC of Awka Ibom, Kun Khalifa FC of Owerri, Imo State and Gateway FC of Abeokuta.

Following a successfull draws made on Saturday, 28th September 2024 during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the NNL held at the Executive Nest Hotel and Suites in Bauchi, Bauchi State, Dakkada FC of Akwa Ibom would come knocking on United's door in season opener.

According to the headship of the newly composed management of Omoluabi Giants, each group poses its own opportunities and challenges but the champions must be ready to beat the best.

"The draw is fair enough because, no team is slotted with the aim of making up numbers. Whoever goes to World Cup thinking of bypassing heavyweight nations would end up failing even before tourneys kickoff. The surest way to champion the group lies solely on our character in defeating tough opponents.

"Secondly, we are going to recruit the best legs around. Soliciting for untested legs wouldn't be entertained. We will present squad everyone will be proud of because there's no hiding place for anyone, we will do well if we recruit properly. We narrowly misses out last term but we will give it extra push this time around.

"We therefore call on stakeholders to keep supporting the team. We promise to justify government committments toward the team with resounding performances," enthusiastic chairman, Ololade Gbenga informed the press after the draw in Bauchi.

Orumogege Football Tourney To Harness Talents In Ogbomosoland- Amos Ado

Orumogege Football Tourney To Harness Talents In Ogbomosoland- Amos Ado

A former official in the Marketing Department of the Confederation of African de Football (CAF), Mr. Amos Ado has revealed that the Orumogege Football Tournament is a platform designed to harness the numerous football talents in Ogbomoso.

Amos Ado, Head of Kinetic Sports and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the football tournament, also gave ingredients that can make the beautiful round leather game in Nigeria marketable.

"Football ball is a very marketable event. We just have to put all our facilities in good shape to attract brands.

"The playing pitches must be of standard, making sure we televise our footballing event and the most important fans and ensuring our football venues are safe for everyone.

The former COPA Lagos Beach football organizer and marketing expert gave an insight into how the Orumogege Football Tourney came about.

"For a very long time, I had it in mind to do something different in football, so I met an organization called Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum (OCYF) and sold the idea of the essence of going into football development, and the rest is history.

"Our Kabiyesi, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Ọba Ghandi Afọlábí Ọláoyè, Orumógege III, is a youth-loving Kabiyesi, and he accepted that we host the tourney.

" The goal is to discover talent during the tournament and nurture them for the future, as we intend to produce more Seyi Olofinjana (Super Eagles legend) from Ogbomoso We also really need to thank the Soun Ogbomoso, Alainsmith, and OCYF for their support.

"We're also doing something differently in football in Ogbomoso. The Orumogege Football Tournament is free-age grade and played as knockout football at the Soun Stadium.

"The LOC opted to make the tournament a  knockout based as against the Group Phase to make it very competitive. It has attracted a lot of fans who have been kept on the edge of their seats with dazzling football skills from the 32 teams registered for the event.

"It has also been a commercial boom for the city as a lot of market women around the stadium are making brisk business selling their commodities to fans.

"Thankfully, the tournament powered by OCYF and Alainsmith Nigeria Limited and I am  delighted to inform Ogbomoso people that our Kabiyesi, Oba Olaoye Ghandi has assured us the tournament will  be held annually, following the success recorded within the few days of the kickoff."

Second Optima Energy Gold Cup Triumph Will Be Bonus For Beyond Limits - Olumide

Optima Energy Gold Cup Final: Beyond Limits To Learn, Compete Against Shooting Stars- Olumide

Olumide Ajibolade says winning a back-to-back Optima Energy Gold Cup against Shooting Stars in the final will be a bonus to his Beyond Limits, as his lads are ready to to learn, compete against the best.

Both teams clash in Saturday's finale of the 12th edition of the nation's off-season football tournament billed for the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.

His thoughts ahead of the tantalizing clash after Beyond Limits edged FC Ebedei in the first semis on Thursday.

"The objective is to learn and compete, Shooting Stars should give us a good game for the boys to take the lessons. We're happy.

"I've never gone to a tournament thinking I have to win, it's never in the back of my mind, and of course people say that's a lie because we win everything.

"Our objective is always to compete, and if we win, it's a bonus. We have to ensure the lads play well and improve, and if we win again on Saturday, it's just another trophy, and we're happy for that."

On the tough and close game against FC Ebedei, "I don't think our semi-final game was difficult just because we won with a one goal margin, however the opposition was very physical, a lot duels and intensity pressing, organization with bodies behind the ball. And off course, we expected that when we know, as no team wants us to have space behind, so we keep probing trying to find the options to play around them and eventually we get a break through.

"By and large I think the organization from FC Ebedei was good but we were not just able to have in our one by one, may be it's preseason, so we have a lot to work on.

"Nothing different from what we actually do, it's preseason so we would then compete and hopefully we'll be able to field a lot more players, so they can get the needed minutes as they prepare for other competitions that's ahead of us. So nothing special, just our normal approach of excellence."

Fredrick Oliseh: FC Ebedei Will Battle Beyond Limits With Same Intensity

Fredrick Oliseh: FC Ebedei Will Battle Beyond Limits With Same Intensity

FC Ebedei General Manager and Coach Fredrick Oliseh says it is an incredible feeling breaking the 12-year jinx in the Optima Energy Gold Cup, as he assured that it will be the same intensity against Beyond Limits in Thursday's semi-final.

Fredrick said: "It's incredible qualifying for the preseason semi-final; it's great working with a committed assistant; it all comes down to hard work, that's what it is, and never giving up and always adding up to the formula at FC Ebedei.

"Great credit to the entire staff and the players. It's not just me as no man is an island. To our President Barrister Churchill Oliseh, who's the frontrunner and insightful in giving me this platform."

Ahead of the next clash against Beyond Limits, "The games in the group are done, and you are only as good as your next game.

"Intensity, the same as you have seen on FC Ebedei, our level will be intense, we will be on the front foot. We will obviously create chances and then capitalise on moments; that's what we are going to do."

On his team's performance against Ikorodu City whom they piped 1-0 and kept a clean sheet.

"You didn't keep clean sheets without hardwork, it takes a lot, that's why I have to give credit to the players and coaches. We work incredibly hard on how we want to defend and what we do when we don't have the ball, and you see the results right there on the pitch."

On his lads scoring two out of the three goals they recorded in the group phase in the first half.

"Football is a game of moments, and these moments fell to us in the first halves of the matches against Osun United and Ikorodu City, and we have taken them.

"At FC Ebedei, we only chase excellence, and this is the position we want to be in, as we don't accept anything less and demand outright the best for ourselves in terms of performance performance.

"To be able to do these against Osun United, Ikorodu City and Shooting Stars is a testament to our psyche and mentality at FC Ebedei."

ASVO FC Will Be Ambitious Against Shooting Stars- Osho

ASVO FC Will Be Ambitious Against Shooting Stars- Osho

Fatai Osho has assured that his Association Sportive de la Vallée de l'Ouémé (ASVO) FC will give its best shots against Shooting Stars of Ibadan.

Osho revealed his pre-match routine ahead of Thursday's Optima Energy Gold Cup semi-final against the Oluyole Warriors at the Remo Stars International Stadium, Ikenne by 3pm.

"I'm impressed with the transition in my team, coming from an opening day defeat to a draw and a win in the final group game," he told Optima Energy Gold Cup preseason tournament Media Channel.

"But, we can't be ignorant of the fact that we still have a whole lot of work to do, to make the team better.  Having a contest with Shooting Stars in the semi-final will help us as a team, as the Oluyole Warriors will expose our weaknesses and strengths, and on our part, we'll be ambitious.

"Once a team is in the semi-final of any tournament and has the chance to win it, then such a team must give its best shot. That ASVO FC will do, as we want to have another test with defending champions Beyond Limits in the final if both teams qualify.

"We are looking forward to the Optima Energy Gold Cup final, as there's always a first time. In the last week of intense training and looking at the work rate of players in the matches we have played coming this far, I am highly encouraged. So playing in the final on Saturday will be an icing on the cake for us.

"My assistants and I will prepare the team mentally for Shooting Stars and with a mindset that anything is quite possible."

On his team's progress in the preseason tournament, "It has been one with mixed emotions but a good one for the team, as finishing the final game against Kasam FA with a win and with 10-man, said a lot about the team.

"In our first game against Beyond Limits, we started badly, the conditioning was not there, and we then had to work extra hard on the players, so that they could be able to compete, that's was has manifested in the team as they can now play better with the ball as a unit and execute my tactical instructions on the pitch.

"The fitness level of my players is gradually coming up, as this is the only time we can overload them in training and still ask them to play.

On his no-show in the dugout, " It is deliberate. It's a preseason tournament, and I want my assistants to do much of the job on the touchline while I watch calmly and jot on my notes the key things I see about my players during matches."

Osho, a former coach of Akwa United, has assured ASVO FC fans that they will see his 'Sugar Ball' when the Beninese season kicks off.

"No doubt about it, we are going to be good in that area, my free-flowing football. Practically, we have just two weeks to work as a unit, and to have a team, where you can have players that can pass the ball to each other with their eyes closed, would need time."

"At this year's edition of the goalkeeper who keeps the most clean sheets and makes outstanding saves and displays heroics in penalty shootout will be rewarded with an award."

Meanwhile the knockout stage of the nation's prestigious preseason tournament kicks on Thursday with two mouthwatering clashes between defending champions Beyond Limits and FC Ebedei at 8am, while Shooting Stars of Ibadan will have Beninese Association Sportive de la Vallée de l'Ouémé (ASVO) FC nut to crack in the second game billed for 3pm.

Grassroots Football Is Challenging In Nigeria - Football Agency Boss

Grassroots Football Is Challenging In Nigeria - Agency Boss

A foremost players agent and football administrator Pele John Taiwo has tasked  grassroots football managers to rejig and revitalise the system in a way that showcase the true value of football developments.

The lle-lfe based grassroots football enthusiast and Academy owner whose products are making waves in Europe advocates for right environments, more opportunities and skills development in grassroots football developments.

"Football is a big business nowadays but players don't have business mindsets as regards marketing, most of the coaches only approach the game with fixated minds on winning laurels .

"There’s a bit of a snag with  that, coaches that suppose to even know better are no more teaching basic skills and there's no way they can get the best out of these players, which sidelines the goals of youth football.

"Many of our players are good but are not marketable because of the faulty foundations, some by luck would find themselves there but lack the quality to play at the top. Necessary things must be taught at the expense of winning. Though we can't dismiss the importance of winning but lessons and ethos remain constant regardless of the outcome."

The football financier who closely monitored series of matches at the ongoing Optima Energy Preseason Tournaments in Ogun state believes the youths should be given enough chance to showcase their talents.

" I have seen big teams that are not doing enough while some are presently parading marketable youths.

"Young players need opportunities, that's what the world of football wants. We need to know and understand what is marketable and presentable. This tourney should be seen as an avenue to instill confidence into young players. There are potentials that are ready to explode when they play with confidence and enjoy themselves," he noted

Damian Kpakpo: Osho Will Qualify ASVO For Super League, Rates Optima Energy Gold Cup High

Damian Kpakpo: Osho Will Qualify ASVO For Super League, Rates Optima Energy Gold Cup High

Association Sportive de la Vallée de l'Ouémé (ASVO) FC assistant coach Damian Kpakpo has assured Beninese fans that Fatai Osho will qualify the team to the Super League, while saying the Optima Energy Gold Cup preseason tournament will put them in top shape going into the season.

Speaking to journalists after ASVO FC drew 0-0 with Ijebu United in the second game of the tournament on Saturday.

"We are all really excited to be in Nigeria for the Optima Energy Gold Cup. The platform we want to use to measure the team as we have new players in the team," said Kpakpo.

"Our first match was a tough one against Beyond Limits as we featured old, new players and products from our academy. But it was a unique experience for us, the coaches and players are learning new things from Fatai Osho as well as some players having the opportunity to take part in a pre-season tournament outside Benin Republic.

"Osho is a top coach in the Nigeria Premier Football League, so we have a lot to learn from him. In our second game against Ijebu United, we played better and got a draw. If our players made good use of the chances we could have won the match.

" I can say that we are improving in our matches and everyone is certain Osho can make things work for ASVO in the new season. "

After missing out of qualifying for the Benin Championnat National playoffs (Super League) for the first time last season, Kpakpo is optimistic that ASVO FC will do better.

"We are so willing to start again, and qualify for the playoffs. The preseason has been challenging, but I know going back to Benin for the new season, our fans will see an entirely different ASVO.

" ASVO FC have some new players from Nigeria that will add quality and experience to the team and help qualify for the Super League."

Optima Energy Gold Cup: Wasteful Osun United Fails To Punish FC Ebedei In Thriller

Optima Energy Gold Cup: Wasteful Osun United Fails To Punish FC Ebedei In Thriller

Osun United held FC Ebedei to a one all draw in thriller in the opening Group B fixture at the FC Ebedei Stadium in Sagamu.

The Oliseh Boys started the match on a positive note, continuously creating chances and, at the end, unsettled Osun United.

It was Miracle Osakene who broke the deadlock with a powerful shot that hit the back of the net in the second minute of the first half.

However, Osun United kept knocking on the door to score the equalizer, which they did as the Omoluabi Giants proved why they are a top Nigeria National League side.

Joseph Allen found a free space in the box in the 8th minute, after a quality team buildup to slice home his goal for 1-1.

Osun United had a chance to take the lead in the 24th minute after Qamar Qamar missed a glorious chance after failing to make the most of an assist from Naheem Odugbemi.

Both teams then produced some end-to-end football stuff going into the break, but Osun United were a bit wasteful with their half chances.

The final 45 minutes lived up to the billing as Miracle should have found the net for his brace for FC Ebedei.

Three minutes after the one hour mark, FC Ebedei Miracle dribble past his maker before sending in a diagonal pass to Fanen Terkula, but his final effort was deflected for a corner.

With 10 minutes to end the game, Sikiru Durotoye missed a glorious chance to put the icing on the cake for Osun United, but he watched as his effort sealed wide off an empty net.

Both teams finally shared the spoils as the match official ended the thrilling encounter for 1-1

“Kasam’s win was a surprise for me” - Olawale

“Kasam’s win was a surprise for me” - Olawale

Ibrahim Ahmed Olawale, President of new football kids on the block KASAM FC of Ilorin says the essence of the Optima Energy Gold Cup was a tool to measure his team's development, as he is not overwhelmed by the win against Ijebu United.

Olawale told Optima Energy Gold Cup media channel of his team earned their debut win in the opening fixture on Thursday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

"The victory against Ijebu United in our Optima Energy Gold Cup debut, got me suprised, looking at the status of Ijebu United, them being a top side in the Nigeria National League and runners-up in last year's edition of the preseason tourney.

"My team is new and has a mix of players who have not really had a feel of top professional football. The result is massive for the team as  our goal is to use the Optima Energy Gold Cup platform to bridge the gap in the team.

"Going forward, it's a developmental process for KASAM FC, the game against Ijebu United has exposed to us our weakness and strength, and from there solutions will be proffered to where we're lacking."

Asked about the mission and objective of setting up the football academy.

"The brain behind KASAM FC, is the coming of football business minds and having a blueprint of European basic football club administration, players development vis-a-vis playing top quality football.

"As regards the business part of the game, we are much interested in it, the European market and also open to profit driven partnership that can expand the academy. This is why we have set a standard for ourselves as we know that the football market is global.

"Every team that's taking part in the 12th edition of the Optima Energy Gold Cup want to win, but for KASAM FC, we are using this platform as one of the tools to measure our development.

"However with the Ijebu United hurdle  crossed, we will be taking the matches as they come, make good use of our chances moving forward as we have more tough matches to play.

"I also want to use this medium to commend the Optima Energy Gold Cup organisers for a job well done, the off-season tourney has shown why it's sought after by top clubs in the three divisions of Nigeria league.

"The level of organization, standard and caliber of teams in tourney just makes it professional and a platform to shape teams and players for the new season and football market."

Betiku's Achievement With Sunshine Stars Is Laudable

Betiku's Achievement With Sunshine Stars Is Laudable

The name Seun Betiku rings a bell. Grown from being a former player, a shot-stopper to be precise in the domestic league to Team Manager, having learned from past result-oriented administrators who have managed Ondo football at the top level, Betiku ranks among the top team managers in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Changing the narrative at Sunshine Stars by maintaining professional standards at all times would naturally attract criticism, and it's challenging to say positive things about Betiku, as his criticisms are often opinion-based and come from a fraction of people who thrive on a 'Bring-him-down' syndrome. Football is not just football for Betiku, but adds player management to it, leading numerous players to fulfill their full potential at both Sunshine Stars and the women's team Sunshine Queens. Filled with energy and positive vibes, Betiku is a goal-getter, very articulate, an assertive communicator, and full of excitement, and nothing beats him than ensuring players' welfare is paramount.

For critics to digest and have a know of Betiku, who started his football sojourn with Kogi United in 2006 while a student at the Kogi State University. It was Coach Raymond Ogosi of blessed memory who discovered and encouraged him to join the University team where he was noticed and asked to join Kogi United. He became a professional footballer after completing his education and joined Rising Stars FC in 2009.

He made history in the 2014/15 football season by playing for three clubs in a single season due to his qualities. He started the season with Sunshine Stars and by Week 9, he joined Remo Stars when Bode Awakan was in charge.

He then joined C.O.D FC by mid-season.

While a professional footballer, Betiku was also learning football administration due to his closeness and the wonderful working relationships he has with the leadership of the clubs he played for.

After his sojourn outside his state, Betiku returned to Akure in 2016 to play for Sunshine Stars. It was there he was exposed to proper football management, even as a player.

He had the opportunity to work closely with veterans like Akin Akinbobola, Mike Idoko, and Chief Segun Adagunodo.

He was able to study how these administrators managed club football, the affairs of players, and preparing the team for matches and was inspired by that.

He decided from them, to toe the same path. It will be recalled that Sunshine Stars were so formidable that they qualified for continental football for two seasons, and reached the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup. Then they had Akin Akinbobola and it was under him Sunshine Stars missed the league title by a point on the final day. Betiku retired from active football in 2017 due to a terrible shoulder injury.

He was lucky to get instant exposure to football administration with his appointment as Team Manager of Rising Stars FC for the 2017/2018 NLO season.

He tinkered with the team to reach the promotion playoffs in Makurdi where they lost to Kwara Football Academy. The team reached another playoff the following season and they lost the chance to be promoted to the NNL to Ajiroba Ooni FC on goal difference. Having done tremendously well with Rising Stars, the young Betiku was drafted to Sunshine Queens the following season.

He was able to make a significant impact on Sunshine Queens with the experience he gathered as a player and from his previous assignment at Rising Stars. His style of administration was all-inclusive with transparency and honesty. It was easy for Betiku to identify the need for players to read their minds and know what they wanted at the right time the same route as a player.

He prioritized the welfare of his players and made sure they were in good mental and physical condition at all times. He sees the players as soldiers and tools needed to succeed as an administrator.  That has helped him so well to achieve tremendous success.

He worked with Coach Mathew Wemimo as Technical Adviser of Sunshine Queens in the 2020/2021 NWFL season and the team qualified for the championship Super Six playoffs for the first time in 15 years. With his administrative acumen, Betiku was able to inspire Sunshine Queens to turn the surprise package of playoffs from being tagged as an underdog ahead of the playoffs ending the playoffs with just two points behind eventual winners, Rivers Angels.

It was then he caught the attention of Governor Aiyedatiwa who was then the Deputy Governor of Ondo State.

According to Betiku, Governor Aiyedatiwa has been a passionate lover of sports and Betiku ensured the NWFL board invited the then deputy Governor for the finals and honoured him with an award. It was Betiku's exploits with the Queens that convinced the State Government to appoint him as Team Manager of Sunshine Stars.

As Team Manager of the Owena Whales under Hon. Aiyedatiwa who was the chairman of the Interim Management Committee of Sunshine Stars under the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the club ended the 2021/2022 season 11th haven lost the final day fixture to Remo Stars. The following season was another significant one for Sunshine Stars under Betiku. The team participated in an abridged league where they were paired with the big boys in the league.

With his expertise and support from the then Commissioner for Sports, Honorable Bamidele Ologun, Sunshine Stars finished third in that group and qualified for the championship playoffs in Lagos. He introduced the club's anthem which was admired by all and sundry and has become the club's identity to date.

Just as he did with Sunshine Queens, Betiku changed the narratives with Sunshine Stars at the playoffs by finishing fourth ahead of Insurance FC and Lobi Stars who were rated as favourites to win the playoffs. They missed the chance to seal a place in the continent no thanks to their heavy 3-0 defeat to eventual champions, Enyimba.

It is noteworthy that Betiku deserves his flowers as one of the youngest and best sports administrators who has managed various cadres of football and made a significant impact at various levels.

He will also be remembered for his laudable imprints and unwavering commitment to making sure Sunshine Stars remain one of the most celebrated and recognized clubs in Nigeria club football.

Tijani Jamal, How Alan FC Ejigbo Kid Sensation Is Defining Moments At SmartCity Osun State Football League

One of the reliable shot stoppers performing magic at the ongoing SmartCity Osun State Football League. Jamal, a 16 year-old Ejigbo born teenage goalkeeper is arguably winning points for Alan FC week in week out.

You would ask yourself if you have ever come across the next Ederson or Neuer with his composure and ability to command the defensive set up right from his habitat.

With 5 clean sheet at a bounce, it's such a commanding performance, then why seeking holy grail when Jamal's brilliancy in goal is simply preventing goals.

Over time, the requirements of the game have changed. We have coaches who want their goalkeepers to be excellent in distribution and others who want their goalkeepers to offer incredible sweeping abilities with astounding footwork, Jamal has been constantly changing the narratives evolving from traditional goalkeeper to a complete one.

The meteoric rise of Alan FC on the table following a saggy start is linked to a young Jamal who excel in shot-stopping, distribution, and sweeping without clear weaknesses.

Technically gifted, he models his game after Ederson and he's not always worry about aerial threats, definitely a one for the future and one of the true revelation of *SmartCity Osun State Football League*

The table tennis championship is organised by SportsGig International, an outfit which deals with sporting events and athletes, in conjunction with the Osun State Table Tennis Association and other relevant bodies which includes the Osun Sports Council, Ministry of Education and Sports.

The competition is aimed at encouraging the girl child participation in sports, which is an avenue for them to express themselves and harness their talents, thereby empowering them to succeed in sports and beyond.

The theme of the event is "Let The Girls Play", which supports the competition's strategic ambition to give young girls equal access to participate in sports and stay away from societal vices.

Briefing newsmen in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State on thursday, the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of SportsGig International, Olayinka Olawole, stated that over 20 Schools have submitted names of participants for the event, which will kickoff on Tuesday, the 28th of May 2024, at the Ultra Modern, Micheal and Felicia Alabi Memorial Table Tennis Hall, Osogbo.

"For us at SportsGig International, we are all about getting people more involved in every aspect of Sports. He said.

"This campaign is one that's very close to my heart, and something I am extremely passionate about, when it comes to providing a conducive environment for young people, especially girls to participate in Sports.

"We know and understand that girls are not well encouraged to participate in sporting activities, reason this Table Tennis Championship is themed "Let The Girls Play".

"The table tennis championship is statewide and also an avenue to drive the agenda of her Excellency, Erelu Ngozi Adeleke commitment to building a better life for the girl child in the state and beyond.

"We really want to appreciate Her Excellency, Wife of the Governor of Osun State, Erelu Ngozi Adeleke for using her good office to create a welcoming environment for girls involvement in Sports, thereby developing their confidence, self esteem and a sense of accomplishment. In the next few days, we shall be rolling out, names of sponsors for this competition. " He Concluded.

On his own part, Co-founder and Chief Operating Manager of SportsGig International, Ibrahim Akinokun reiterated the importance of girl child participation in sports and also the main reason behind the organization of the competition.

"The prevailing societal propensity is to snigger at the cardinality of the girl-child involvement in sports. This has morphed into a stereotype that has to be changed. Female athletes have brought more glory to Nigeria in international sporting arena, despite the headwind of encumbrances they often have to charge through."

"We cannot obscure the reality that, Nigeria's hitherto dominance of the African female table tennis landscape has waned owing to an acute dearth of young female talents to take over the baton from the veterans. It is therefore wholly within the bounds of reason the necessity to create a platform for female talent discovery and harnessing".

"On this forthcoming championship, we are standing on the shoulders of giants, and our enthusiasm of a desired outcome of it is the sea of stars. All the pieces are sliding into place and we harbour skyscraping hope that the inaugural edition of the Erelu Ngozi Adeleke Table Tennis Championship For Female Secondary School Students will turn out a resounding success".
