NNL: Unuanel seeks first league win

After a resounding 2-1 victory over Police FC to lift the State of Osun AITEO/F.A Cup, Osun United are battle ready to slug it out against Abia Comets Football Club in the matchday 2 of the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL).

The Omoluabi Giants were buoyed by the return of some key players of the team, who missed the first game of the season and the F.A Cup final.

Apart from Adio Yusuf who is recuperating from a thigh injury, other players are as fit as fiddle which will provide ample opportunity for the veteran Coach Samson Unuanel to field a strong squad against the visiting Abia Comets, that forced 3SC to a draw.

The Bethel Orji boys had forced Oluyole Warriors to a one all draw in their MatchDay 1 encounter which held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.

The team also won their second game played in Umuahia, defeating Bayelsa United by two unreplied goals to stay top of NNL Group B1.

The Omoluabi Giants however lost their first league game against Bayelsa United, who struggled to score 2 late goals in a bumper to bumper clash in Yenogoa.

Speaking after the training, Coach Unuanel assured the good people of Osun of maximum 3 points in the first home game with a call on fans "to remain loyal and supportive".

Tomorrow's game will hold at the Oshogbo Township Stadium, Oshogbo beginning from 4pm.

Can Eaglets pick World Cup ticket today?

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will be  aiming for second win, when they battle Angola by noon today in the second group match at the on-going U-17 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Victory for Nigeria at the National Stadium in Dar es salaam will see them book a slot for the U-17 FIFA World Cup.

Fresh from a 5-4 win over hosts in the opening match, Nigeria’s coach assistant coach Jolomi Atume has said they want to make their work easy by picking another three points.

“We understand that we need to win this game to qualify not only to the semifinal, but also to the FIFA U-17 World Cup. We know that our defense made several mistakes in the opening fixture against Tanzania which saw us concede four goals, but we are working on to improve,” he added.

The Golden Eaglets’ midfielder Andrian Akande said facing the hosts was not easy, but added that they will not be under pressure facing Angola. “The game against Angola is more important for us because our ambition is to qualify to the FIFA U-17 World Cup,” he added.

But the Angola coach Pedro Gonçalves has also made it clear his boys are going die on the pitsh. “The confidence and motivation level of my players has soared after beating Uganda in the opening match. But we will map out a strategy to contain Nigeria,” added the coach.

Nigeria will look to their key striker Wisdom Onyedikachi Ubani and Mayowa Abayomi, while Angola will hope that their hard working midfielder Osvaldo Pedro Capemba and skipper Jose Ngunza Cabingano can drive the team.
