Sporting Lagos Crowned 2026 NNL Super Four Champions

Sporting Lagos have been crowned champions of the 2026 NNL Super Four, edging out local rivals Inter Lagos on goal difference after a dramatic final day at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo.

The “Noisy Lagosians” went into Matchday 3 needing just a point to secure the title, and though they fell 1-0 to Inter Lagos in the Lagos derby, their earlier results proved enough. Sporting Lagos finished top of the table with 6 points from three games, having opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over Ranchers Bees before dismantling Doma United 4-0 on Matchday 2.

Inter Lagos also ended the championship on 6 points, following a 1-0 loss to Doma United, a 1-0 win over Ranchers Bees, and Friday’s derby victory. But Sporting’s superior goal tally gave them the edge and the ₦10,000,000 prize money that comes with the trophy.

Ranchers Bees and Doma United finished third and fourth respectively, completing the quartet of promoted clubs that will feature in the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

For Sporting Lagos, the Super Four triumph caps a rapid rise since the club’s founding and signals their readiness for top-flight football. Inter Lagos, Ranchers Bees, and Doma United will also head home with momentum, using the next few weeks to regroup and prepare for the challenges of the NPFL.

The final day in Ikenne delivered the drama, tension, and quality that defined a competitive Super Four, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting season ahead for Nigeria’s second-tier graduates.

Burna Boy and Shakira Put Nigerian Sound On The World Cup Stage with ‘Dai Dai’

https://x.com/shakira/status/2052418680533791188?s=20

Nigeria’s influence on global music just got another major spotlight as Burna Boy teams up with Colombian superstar Shakira on _‘Dai Dai’_, the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Announced on Thursday, the track blends Shakira’s Latin pop energy with Burna Boy’s unmistakable Afrobeats rhythm, creating a sound that feels both global and unmistakably Nigerian. For a country whose Super Eagles won’t be at the tournament, it’s proof that Nigerian voice and culture will still resonate on football’s biggest stage.

The collaboration is more than a feature, it’s recognition of how far Afrobeats has come. Burna Boy’s inclusion shows that FIFA and global audiences now see Nigerian music as essential to the World Cup’s cultural identity.

In the promotional clip, Shakira leads a vibrant dance crew with a football at the center, it’s Burna Boy’s tone that give 'Dai Dai’  its distinct edge. It is a seamless fusion, where Naija energy meets global pop appeal.

This isn’t Shakira’s first time shaping World Cup soundtracks. She defined a generation with ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)’ in 2010 and ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ in 2006. But ‘Dai Dai’ feels different because it reflects the current reality of world music: Africa, and Nigeria in particular, is now a driving force. The song is designed to celebrate the three host nations USA, Mexico, and Canada but it also carries Nigerian flavor to millions of viewers who may never have visited Nigeria.

Set to feature prominently at the opening ceremony on June 11, 2026, ‘Dai Dai’ is already generating buzz online. Fans are praising the chemistry between Shakira and Burna Boy, with many saying the track could become the defining anthem of the summer.

Ikenne Hosts NNL Super Four As Lagos Rivals, Doma, Ranchers Bees Chase ₦10m Prize

The 2025-2026 Nigeria National League Super Four kicks off Monday, May 4, 2026, at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State. The tournament features Sporting Lagos, Inter Lagos, Doma United, and Ranchers Bees — all four having already clinched promotion to next season’s Nigeria Premier Football League. With top-flight status secured, the stakes now shift to pride, prestige, and the title of overall NNL champions.

Matchday one opens with Sporting Lagos facing Ranchers Bees at 2pm, followed by Doma United versus Inter Lagos at 4pm. Beyond bragging rights, the four clubs will battle for a ₦10 million winner’s prize, with each team guaranteed ₦2 million in participation fees. Organizers are pushing for high professional standards, mandating that every club’s head coach and one player attend both pre-match and post-match press conferences throughout the competition.

Toptier Sports Management Limited CEO Chichi Nwoko says all logistics and matchday operations are set for a smooth tournament. “We have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that all modalities are in place for a superb outing. The goal is to deliver a tournament that reflects the growing standards of the league,” she stated.

With Lagos represented by two strong sides in Sporting Lagos and Inter Lagos, and northern challenge coming from Doma United and Ranchers Bees — owned by Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq — the Ikenne showdown promises fireworks. As promotion pressure fades, the question remains: will Lagos dominate, or will experienced contenders like Ranchers Bees take the crown heading into NPFL life?

Falconets Clip Young Scorchers’ Wings 2-0 In Ikenne World Cup Qualifier

Poland 2026: Falconets cage Malawi 2-0 in Ikenne, eye win in Lilongwe

Nigeria’s U-20 girls, Falconets, dominated easily and created a hatful of opportunities as they earned a 2-0 win over their counterparts from Malawi in the first leg of a FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup final round fixture in Ikenne-Remo on Saturday.

The win brightened Nigeria’s chances of earning yet another spot at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, in which they have been an ever-present since the competition was launched as an U19 tournament in Canada in 2002. While the final scoreline suggests a routine day at the office, the encounter required a tactical recalibration from Coach Moses Adukwu after an opening 45 minutes in which the Falconets created so many opportunities but simply could not get the ball into the net, partly due to the brilliance of visiting goalkeeper Emily Nkhwazi.

From the first blast of the whistle, Nigeria established territorial monopoly, using the width of the pitch, and forcing Malawi’s ‘Young Scorchers’ into a deep defensive block. However, for all the intricate build-up play and attacking intent, the final touch did not get the ball into the net. Malawi’s rear-guard stood obstinate, absorbing pressure and ensuring that the hosts went into the interval with nothing to show for their dominance.

Things changed almost immediately after the restart. Whatever was discussed in the dressing room translated into a higher tempo and more direct probing. The pressure finally told in the 47th minute. A fizzed delivery into the danger zone caused panic in the Malawian defence, forcing Maureen Kenneth into an inadvertent touch that settled into her own net.

The own goal acted as the spark Nigeria needed. Ten minutes later, the stadium found its voice again. In a move that showed pure clinical execution, Faridat Abdulwahab picked out Kindness Ifeanyi with a pinpoint assist. Ifeanyi made no mistake, doubling the lead and providing the Falconets with the breathing room their effort deserved.

Malawi attempted a late rally, but Nigeria’s structural integrity remained intact. With a two-goal cushion, Moses Adukwu’s side will travel for the second leg in a week’s time having the upper hand in the fixture.

The win earned the Falconets the sum of 1 Million Naira from the President of Remo Stars FC and Beyond Limits Football Academy, Hon. Kunle Soname, who had before the match, promised the team the sum of 500,000 Naira for each goal.

The return leg is scheduled for the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday, 9th May, with kickoff set for 3pm Malawi time (2pm in Nigeria).

Why Fans Love Him: Sodiq Ibrahim's Heartwarming Rise

Sodiq Ibrahim: Shooting Stars’ Relentless Spearhead Deserves His Moment

In the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), few names resonate as strongly right now as Sodiq Ibrahim. The in-form striker for Shooting Stars is enjoying a remarkable run in the Nigeria Premier Football League, underlining his status as one of the most lethal attacking forces in Nigerian football today.

Currently sitting among the league’s top scorers with 9 goals this season, Ibrahim has been nothing short of exceptional. His contributions—9 goals and 2 assists—tell the story of a forward operating at peak efficiency, combining clinical finishing with intelligent movement and an ever-growing influence in the final third.

Nicknamed “Obege”, Ibrahim’s rise has been built on consistency and resilience. After joining Shooting Stars midway through the 2024/2025 season, he wasted no time announcing himself, finishing as the club’s leading scorers despite limited time. That momentum has seamlessly carried into the current campaign, where he now stands as a central figure in the Oluyole Warriors’ attacking setup.

Beyond the numbers, it is his presence that truly elevates the team. Whether leading the line, pressing defenders, or delivering decisive moments in front of goal, Ibrahim embodies the modern striker—dynamic, fearless, and decisive. His performances have not only powered Shooting Stars’ ambitions but have also captured the attention of fans and observers across the country.

In a season where talent continues to emerge across the NPFL, Ibrahim’s sustained excellence sets him apart. With the Unity Cup in London on the horizon, his remarkable form naturally strengthens the case for his inclusion among the home-based players to be invited to the Super Eagles squad. Few players in the domestic scene can match his current output and overall impact, making him a compelling option for Eric Chelle's consideration.

As the season progresses, one thing remains clear: Sodiq Ibrahim is not just in form—he is defining it. And if consistency remains his companion, his brilliance will continue to demand both national and international recognition at the highest level.

Nigeria is watching. The league is taking note. And Sodiq Ibrahim is delivering—week in, week out.

In A Low-Scoring League, Qamar Adegoke Is Breaking The NPFL Code

In a league where goals come at a premium, Qamar Adegoke has become the story Shooting Stars SC fans can’t stop telling. With 29 games under his belt and starting only seven times, ‘Ishana’ as he’s fondly called  has racked up 9 goals and 1 assist. Four of those strikes came on the road, including his latest in far away Maiduguri where he stunned El-Kanemi Warriors twice with a finish that reminded everyone why he’s one of the deadliest forwards in NPFL.

For a player with fewer minutes, 9 goals in the NPFL is more than impressive; it’s elite-level efficiency.

The first round wasn’t all smooth for the former Nasarawa United FC forward. Game time was limited and challenges came thick, but Qamar kept his head down. He is a top professional and a hard worker whose life is devoid of controversy on and off the pitch. Ibadan people love Qamar, and that love won’t seize because Qamar is scoring for them. Then came the turning point, he started scoring and instantly became one of the fans’ favourites. With precise control and ruthless goal instincts from dangerous areas, he has endeared his name in the hearts of the Oluyole Warriors faithful. His unique, heartwarming goal celebration has become a regular feature at Lekan Salami Stadium.

What separates Ishana is his impact when it matters. In a low-scoring league like the NPFL, 4 away goals tell you everything about his mentality. He doesn’t shrink on hostile grounds but rather thrives. That form has made him one of the top 5 most impactful players this second round. Coaches trust him, defenders fear him, and fans sing his name because he delivers. He’s ever reliable, the kind of forward who needs half a chance to punish you.

With handlers of the National Teams scouting locally to solve Nigeria’s goal scoring problems, Qamar Adegoke stands tall. Eric Chelle should consider inviting NPFL players for Unity Cup in London and Qamar should be on that list without debate. Even the yet-to-be-assembled Nigeria U-23 handlers should be impressed with his performance and give him space to prove his mettle.

From limited first round actions to becoming 3SC’s main man, Qamar Adegoke’s rise this season is centered on goals, discipline, and consistency. Ibadan asked for a hero, and Ishana answered in a frenetic way. Right now, he simply can’t stop scoring and Nigeria may have just found its next local striking solution.

Nasarawa United Crowned Champions As Debutant Oladeji Joshua Shines

Nasarawa United Crowned Champions As Debutant Oladeji Joshua Shines

Seyi Joshua

Nasarawa United were crowned champions of the 2026 Nasarawa State FA Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 win over a determined FC Basira in a pulsating final at the Lafia City Stadium. FC Basira began on the front foot, dictating the early tempo as the lively pair of Jibrin Sani and Aluku Sunday repeatedly breached the Nasarawa United backline with pace and movement.

The ‘Solid Miners’ looked rattled in the opening exchanges, but their debutant goalkeeper ensured the team avoided a major heartbreak.

Oladeji Joshua was handed his first start for Nasarawa United in all competitions as the former Crown FC shot-stopper announced himself in style with a string of spectacular saves that kept his side alive under heavy pressure.

Time and again, Joshua denied FC Basira’s attackers diving full stretch to claw away a curling effort from Jibrin Sani and showing razor-sharp reflexes to block dangerous attempts. His command of the area, calm distribution, and fearless one-on-one stops proved decisive. It was a performance that justified the faith placed in him by goalkeeper trainer expert Olatunji Baruwa, MON, whose confidence in Joshua was repaid in full on the biggest stage.

The second half followed a similar script, with FC Basira laying siege to the Nasarawa United goal. Yet Joshua stood tall, marshalling his defence and pulling off two more crucial saves to frustrate Galadima Boys.

Habibu Alakija would later broke the deadlock with a composed finish, a goal that ultimately sealed the title for the Solid Miners.

The elated goalkeeper expressed gratitudes after the contest. "It's a gritty affairs and coming through today for my debut was a memorable one. The opponents didn't respect names and threw everything at us, we were mentally prepared and didn't leave anything to chance. First game, first trophy for my club really mean a lot to me, I will continue to do my best for this team anytime the opportunity comes. I would like to congratulate the family for this feat and thank my trainer for the confidence and trust he had in me." The former Gateway FC expressed.

Black Friday: Ex Super Eagles Forward Dies In Kaduna

Another tragedy as former Super Eagles’ forward Michael Eneramo dies in Kaduna

Former Nigeria international forward Michael Eneramo collapsed and died on the pitch in Ungwan Yelwa, Kaduna on Friday morning, during a local friendly game in which he had played the entire first half.

Early reports indicated that Eneramo appeared to have suffered cardiac arrest five minutes into the second half of the said friendly match. He was born on 26th November, 1985 in Kaduna.

“This is devastating. I am short of words at this moment. I can only pray that God will grant him eternal rest and also grant his loved ones and the Nigeria football family the fortitude to bear the loss,” NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, said on the telephone from Cairo, Egypt.

Highly-respected in Tunisia and Turkey where he had fantastic club careers, Eneramo won 10 caps for the Super Eagles after rejecting overtures from Tunisia to take that country’s nationality and opt for an international odyssey with the Carthage Eagles.

His debut for Nigeria was against Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz in a friendly match in London on 11th February 2009, which ended goalless. In his second game, also a friendly, he scored his first goal for Nigeria against the Republic of Ireland in a 1-1 draw in London on 29th May 2009. He also played against France in Nigeria’s 1-0 win in Saint Etienne four days later.

Five days later, he featured in Nigeria’s 3-0 win over Kenya in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying match in Abuja, and also played the home-and-away ties with Tunisia (0-0 in Tunis and 2-2 in Abuja) in the same race. It was in the home game against Tunisia in Abuja on 6th September 2009 that he scored his most memorable goal for the Super Eagles.

Nicknamed Al Dababa (The Tank) by fans of Tunisian and African giants Esperance Sportive de Tunis, Eneramo was much-loved in the North African country for his confident play, which earned Esperance a number of silverwares. He also featured for top clubs Besiktas, Sivasspor and Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey.

NFF Mourns As Ibrahim Galadima Dies At 74

Gusau mourns as one-time NFF President, Ibrahim Galadima dies at 74

Nigeria football is again in a state of sadness and grief following the death on Saturday of a former President of then Nigeria Football Association (now Nigeria Football Federation), Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima.

One of Nigeria’s most-respected sports administrators in history, Ibrahim Galadima served as President of then NFA between 2002 and 2006, after serving creditably as Chairman of Kano State FA, Executive Chairman of the Kano State Sports Council, 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Member of the Presidential Monitoring Committee for Stadia Development for the FIFA World Youth Championship, and as Commissioner for Social Welfare, Youth and Sports in Kano State.

“This is another one that hit us hard. Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima was a mentor to so many of us who are in various leadership positions in Nigeria sports today. He was the epitome of high dignity, diligence and integrity.

“We will miss his fatherly advice and words of wisdom dearly. Our prayer is that the Almighty Allah will grant him eternal rest and grant the family he has left behind and the Nigeria Football family the fortitude to bear the big loss,” Gusau said.

Born on 14th June 1951 in Kano, Ibrahim Galadima lived his life around sports, serving meritoriously in all assigned or elective positions. He was Chairman of the Kano State Football Association between 1977 and 1979, served as the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Sports Council between 1981 and 1983, and in 1984, was made a Member of the Caretaker Committee of the National Sports Commission.

Between 1985-1987, he was the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee. In the waning 80s, he was Commissioner for Social Welfare, Youth and Sports in Kano State, and later served as the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport in the State.

Galadima was appointed a Member of the Presidential Monitoring Committee for Stadia Development ahead of the FIFA World Youth Championship that Nigeria was scheduled to host in 1995. The tournament was moved due to health concerns, but when Nigeria eventually hosted four years later, he served as Chairman of the Kano Sub-Seat.

Battle For The National Prominence: Can Dokkal Khairu’s ‘Goodness’ Overpower The ‘Royal’ Might Of Telu FC?

Battle For The National Prominence: Can Dokkal Khairu’s ‘Goodness’ Overpower The ‘Royal’ Might Of Telu FC?

This match is more than just a ninety-minute sprint; it is a collision of cultural identity, royal prestige, and grassroots evolution.
As the Osun State President Federation Cup enters its second match, all eyes turn to the historic city of Ile-Ife for a showdown that pits established Iwo dominance against the rising Ife "blessing."
Here is a tactical and narrative preview of the clash between Telu FC and Dokkal Khairu.

*Telu FC: The "National Team" of Iwo*
Named after the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi (Telu I), this club carries the weight of an entire kingdom. Telu FC is not just a team; it is a consolidation of Iwo’s footballing soul.
The Pedigree: Unlike their opponents, Telu FC are seasoned veterans. With two seasons in the SmartCity Osun State Football League and a gritty campaign in the NLO Division 1 last season, they possess the "big game" temperament.
The X-Factor: Their "cult following." Expect a traveling contingent of fans from Iwo who view every goal as a matter of communal pride.

*Dokkal Khairu: The Well-Funded Newcomers*
Translating from Fulfulde as "May God grant us goodness," Dokkal Khairu enters the scene with a name that suggests grace, but a backing that suggests power.
The Pedigree: While they are the "newcomers" on paper, they are far from underdogs. With heavy funding and the explicit blessings of the Ooni of Ife’s palace, they represent the new era of Ile-Ife football.
The X-Factor: Home Turf. Playing at Oduduwa College gives them more than just familiar grass; it gives them the energy of the Ife fans who are eager to see a local side topple the giants of Iwo.

*Key Battlegrounds*

1. Experience vs. Enthusiasm

Telu FC’s experience in the NLO means they understand how to manage a 12:00 Noon kickoff, where the heat and fatigue become a "12th man." They are likely to play a controlled, tactical game, relying on their chemistry from previous league seasons.

2. The Palace Factor

Dokkal Khairu isn't just playing for three points; they are playing to justify the significant investment and royal backing from the Ooni’s palace. Expect them to start with high intensity, fueled by the home crowd at Oduduwa College, looking for an early goal to unsettle the visitors.

3. A "Civilian" Derby

While the fans see this as an "academic exercise" in profiling, on the pitch, it will be a physical battle. Telu FC has consolidated the best talent from Iwo land, making them a "select side" of sorts. Dokkal Khairu will need to prove that their "Goodness" can withstand the "Royal Might."
*Final Verdict*
Telu FC enters as the favorite based on their NLO pedigree, but Dokkal Khairu is the most dangerous kind of debutant, one that is well-funded, well-rested, and playing in the shadows of their own palace.
Kick-off: Monday, 13 April 2026 | 12:00 Noon
Venue: Oduduwa College, Ile-Ife
Stakes: National Prominence and a spot in the National President Federation Cup draw and final of the Osun State President Federation Cup.

NUJ Seeks Stronger Collaboration With DSS Ahead Of Osun Governorship Election

The executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, have paid a courtesy visit to the Department of State Services (DSS) in the state, with a view to strengthening collaboration on security and responsible journalism.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Secretary, NUJ Osun Council, Comrade Olalekan Akindoju.

Speaking during the visit, the Osun State Director of the DSS, Victor Edet, expressed appreciation to the NUJ leadership for deeming it fit to engage with the command.

He described the media as a critical component in shaping society, noting its influence on public perception and national stability.

The DSS Director urged the NUJ to intensify efforts in sanitizing the profession by curbing the activities of fake journalists.

Edet emphasized that the proliferation of fake news and sensational reportage poses serious threats to national security.

He further called on the union to organize capacity-building trainings for its members to ensure accurate and responsible reporting, particularly as the Osun State governorship election draws near.

According to him, media practitioners must ensure their reportage reflects a strong sense of patriotism and loyalty to the nation.

Earlier in his remarks, the NUJ Chairman in Osun State, Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin, said the visit was aimed at fostering a stronger working relationship between the union and the DSS.

He noted that such collaboration is necessary to enhance security across the state, while also creating a framework for addressing challenges journalists may encounter in the course of their duties, especially during the election period.

'Winner Takes All' As Ejigbo City Face Ijesa Golden Warriors In Federation Cup Qualifier

'Winner Takes All' As Ejigbo City Face Ijesa Golden Warriors In Federation Cup Qualifier

A historic clash is on the horizon as Ejigbo City FC takes on the legendary Ijesa Golden Warriors in a high-stakes qualifying match for the 2026 President Federation Cup. At stake is a coveted slot in the national draw of Nigeria’s most prestigious and oldest knockout football competition.
The Match Details
Fixture: Ejigbo City (Ejigbo) vs. Ijesa Golden Warriors (Ilesa)
Date: Monday, April 13, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM
Venue: Oduduwa College Ground, Ile-Ife
The Narrative: "Old School vs. New School"

Ejigbo City FC: The Rising Force
In only their second year of existence, Ejigbo City FC is standing on the threshold of history. The "Bullish Boys" from Ejigbo have quickly gained a reputation for their motivation and physical style of play. For them, this isn't just a game—it’s an opportunity to announce their arrival on the national stage and secure a place among the elite of Nigerian football.

Ijesa Golden Warriors: The Grassroots Giants
Standing in their way is the oldest running grassroots club in Osun State. The Warriors are the definition of "Old School" resilience. Currently preparing for the NLO Division 1 (Third Division League), the Ilesa-based side is arguably the most match-fit team in the region, maintaining a rigorous schedule of at least four friendly matches every month.
Key Analysis
Venue Advantage: The Warriors are no strangers to the Oduduwa College ground. Their frequent visits to this historic pitch could provide a comfort level that the younger Ejigbo side will need to overcome.
Tactical Contrast: Expect a "Titanic battle" between the seasoned experience of the Warriors and the youthful hunger of Ejigbo City. While the Warriors rely on their established chemistry and tactical discipline, Ejigbo City will look to use their "bullish" momentum to disrupt the veteran side.
The Stakes: This is a "Winner Takes All" scenario. With only two slots available for the national draw, there is zero margin for error.
The Verdict
Will the experience of the Ijesa Golden Warriors prevail, or will the ambition of Ejigbo City FC write a new chapter in Osun State football? One thing is certain: fans at Oduduwa College are in for a masterclass in grassroots passion.

"The Secretariat started the new season campaign with the rollout of the groupings, numbering 46, and an expansion of NLO activities to all states and the FCT. Next is the full fixtures that will be out in the new week.

“As you have observed, the NLO is in line with the trend, with the relaunch of its new website as part of a wider digital transformation designed to deliver a personalised and engaging experience for clubs and fans.

"Supporting us with this ongoing transformation, the NLO entered into a partnership with Zkyte Technology. The move reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation.

"However we look forward to continuing to evolve the Nationwide League One in the years to come to meet the ever-changing needs.“

Osun’s Invisible Tax: How Neglecting Infrastructure is Killing Grassroots Football

There is a quiet injustice unfolding in Osun State, one that doesn’t make headlines, yet is draining dreams, stunting talent, and punishing ambition. It is not a policy written in law, nor is it debated in the House. Yet, every grassroots football club in Osun is paying it.

Call it what it is: an infrastructure tax.

It is a brutal, unnecessary levy imposed not by legislation, but by government neglect.

The Paradox of Passion

Osun is not lacking in football. With over 450 grassroots clubs and more than 20 independent leagues, the state is a sleeping giant of talent production. The energy is there; the raw ability is undeniable. What is missing is the most basic requirement of the modern game: functional infrastructure.

The recently unveiled Osun FA White Paper lays the crisis bare:

Decaying Stadiums: Dilapidated structures that pose safety risks.

Abandoned Pitches: Dirt lots masquerading as professional grounds.

Systemic Neglect: A complete absence of modern equipment, lighting, and development pathways for referees and female athletes.

*The Breaking Point: 17 Clubs, 0 Pitches*

The consequences are no longer theoretical. For the 2026 Nationwide League One (NLO) season, 17 clubs from Osun have registered to compete. Yet, astonishingly, there are not two standard, state-owned pitches available to host their matches.

Last season, 15 clubs were forced to converge on a single private venue: the Lanreleke Sports Complex. Teams bled scarce resources traveling the treacherous Osogbo–Iwo road just to fulfill fixtures. For many, logistics costs now outweigh operational budgets. This is no longer a competition; it is a battle for survival.

The looming embarrassment is clear: Osun clubs may soon be forced to "host" home matches in neighboring states. This strips teams of home advantage, alienates local supporters, and drains an already fragile local economy.

The Roadmap to Recovery

Football is no longer just a pastime, it is a social stabilizer and a multi-billion naira economy. When you neglect pitches, you abandon people. To fix this, we need policy, not platitudes:

The Adopt-One-Pitch Initiative: Every Local Government must upgrade at least one pitch into a functional center within two years. This isn't ambitious; it is basic governance.

Legislative Action: Lawmakers must stop treating sports as "charity." Constituency projects should prioritize stadium upgrades and youth sports hubs over one-off donations.

Institutional Synergy: Universities and polytechnics must integrate their facilities into the state’s talent pipeline.

Private Sector Incentives: The government must move beyond "polite invitations" and create structured tax incentives for businesses that invest in sports infrastructure.

The Final Whistle

Ultimately, the responsibility rests with the Osun State Government. We do not have a lack of ideas; we have a lack of priority.

Osun can continue down this path, exporting its matches, exhausting its clubs, and suffocating its youth, or it can act decisively to reclaim its identity. The choice is simple: Stop taxing dreams through neglect and start building the future through infrastructure. History will not remember the excuses. It will remember that a state rich in talent chose to let its football die on broken pitches.
