 Popular Nigerian Juju and Highlife singer, St. Janet6, whose real name was Iyun Janet Oluwatoyosi Ajilore, has passed away.

The veteran musician died on Saturday, August 1, 2026, after a brief illness reportedly linked to complications from diabetes.
Her death was confirmed by family members and close associates on Saturday evening, leaving fans, colleagues, and stakeholders in the Nigerian entertainment industry mourning the loss of one of the country’s notable female music voices.
Born Omotoyosi Kayode Iyun Ajilore, St. Janet became a household name, particularly across the South West and beyond, through her energetic blend of Juju, Highlife, and socially expressive party music.
For more than three decades, she captivated audiences with her vibrant performances, bold lyrics, distinctive voice, and dance-oriented songs that earned her a loyal following among partygoers, market women, music promoters, and lovers of indigenous Nigerian sounds.
She was widely regarded as one of the few female artistes who successfully established herself in the traditionally male-dominated Juju and Highlife genres. Her music often explored themes of love, society, and everyday street experiences, delivered with a fearless and unconventional style.
Following the announcement of her passing, tributes have continued to pour in from fellow musicians, fans, and cultural figures, who described her as a trailblazer whose music entertained generations while reflecting the realities of society.

Resilient Super Falcons Hold On With 10 Players To Edge Zambia

 

Nigeria’s Super Falcons demonstrated supreme resilience, tactical discipline, and relentless determination on Saturday night, defeating the Copper Queens of Zambia 1–0 in a thrilling WAFCON group-stage encounter in Rabat.

 

An early clinical finish from star forward Asisat Oshoala proved to be the decisive goal, securing all three points for the 10-time African champions despite playing over half the contest with ten players. Nigeria’s early pressure paid off in the 8th minute when Oshoala latched onto a sharp pass inside the box, finishing past the keeper with composure to give the defending champions a well-deserved one nil lead.

 

The game took a dramatic turn in the closing stages of the first period. Central defender Tosin Demehin was initially shown a yellow card for a challenge on Zambia's Barbra Banda, but the decision was temporarily rescinded following a lengthy Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review that spotted an offside in the build-up. However, in the 40th minute, another heavy duel between the two players resulted in Demehin receiving a second disciplinary assessment and a red card, reducing Nigeria to ten women just before the halftime break.

Osun 2026 Debate Scrapped Amid Unrest And Candidate Reluctance

 

The much-anticipated Osun 2026 Governorship Debate scheduled for today, Saturday, the 1st of August, in Osogbo has been cancelled.

The organisers say the decision was unanimously reached following unfavourable security reports and the reluctance of some of the leading governorship candidates to participate under the prevailing circumstances.

The debate, jointly organised by Uniq FM, Rave FM, Diamond FM, and Fresh FM, was expected to feature the governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party, and the African Action Congress (AAC).

According to the organisers, the cancellation became necessary in the interest of public safety and to prevent any situation that could endanger participants, invited guests, media personnel, and members of the public.

The development comes amid reports of unrest in different parts of Osun State, raising concerns over the security challenges that can affect the guests.

The organisers have expressed appreciation to all stakeholders and members of the public for their understanding, assuring that any future arrangements regarding the debate will be communicated through the appropriate channels.
