We Must Bring Consistency To Our Game - Ogbonnaya

We Must Bring Consistency To Our Game - Ogbonnaya

Enyimba must learn to build consistency in order to stand a chance at the Nigeria Professional Football League title, says centreback Nelson Ogbonnaya.

Ogbonnaya, one of the most senior players in the current Enyimba set up has seen every minute of Enyimba’s last three league fixtures, after missing out of the first three for personal reasons.

Enyimba have won two of those three games in which Ogbonnaya featured, including Monday’s 2-1 win against Adamawa United in Bauchi.

And with this Sunday’s fixture against Katsina United around the corner, the experienced defender has sounded the importance of recording consecutive wins to his mates.

“As we can see, this season is already looking very tough. We’ve seen so many teams travel to win matches, meaning no team can be underrated.

“One thing I’ve noticed in the Nigerian league is that if we can show consistency and go many games without losing, them we will definitely need on top.

“That’s just what we need to add to our game right now. Wet must go into every match with the mindset of winning; because with the kind of team we have right now, we can win anywhere.”

Enyimba go into matchday seven with twelve points, having won four and lost two of their opening six fixtures.

Coach Caleb Esu Linked With Warri Wolves And Abia Warri FC

Former Dakkada FC technial adviser Caleb Edu has sensationally been linked with Warri Wolves FC and Abia Warriors FC respectively.

CAF "A" licensed Coach Esu, who guided Dakkada FC to a top 8 finish in thier debut NPFL season last year, has been out of the dugout for months now,  despite his wealth of coaching experience.

The rumour mill has it that the former Calabar Rovers Fc and Go Round FC of Omoku coach Caleb Edu is attracting interest from struggling Abia Warriors and Warri Wolves Fc Respectively.

Abia Warriors Fc is currently having their worst start to the season after recording just 2 points from 6 games played, with the technical crew under intense pressure to change their fortunes around or face been sacked.

Warri wolves FC coach Evans Ogenyi has also struggled with the "Sea Sidders" so far with the team loosing against Nassarwa United in Ozoro, delta state on Matchday 5.

It will be interesting to see how things turn out to be in the coming days as we await the club that will dropped down the sledge hammer on its technical crew for incompetence.

Victory over Enyimba was Kwara United first home win this season in the NPFL having played a 1-1 draw against Akwa United last week in what was a disappointing result.

Why I returned to Heartland bench against Enyimba -Ilechukwu

All may gradually be looking well for Heartland after Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu returned to his role and inspired his team to record its first victory of the season after they beat Oriental Derby rivals 2-0 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

A goal in each half saw the Naze Millionaires triumph over the People's Elephants for a second time within two seasons.

Shedrack Oghali gave his team a half time lead scoring his second NPFL goal of the season.

Adachi Emmanuel then put the icing on the cake after he made its 2-0 for the Naze Millionaires in the 53rd minute.

Speaking after the thrilling game, the 'Working One' gave reasons why he decided to return to the bench against Enyimba despite opting out of the game against Plateau United in Jos were they lost 3-0, based on Heartland's management  attitude towards the players welfare.

Ilechukwu said: "Heartland fans are better than Liverpool fans, as they have been compassionate with the team despite its slow start to the season.

"I opted to return to the dugout because of the fans. Amazed that despite the ban on fans from NPFL games,  seeing them outside the Dan Anyiam Stadium in their numbers with their phones and other devices, while they anxiously wait to hear the news of me returning to the bench and off course the game's livescores made me have a rethink.

"Sad they couldn't watch how their team defeated Enyimba in the Oriental Derby, as the ban on large crowd imposed by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as a way of curbing the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic was still active.

"I dedicate the victory to all our fans as they never stopped believing in us and for the words of encouragement we receive from them. My promise to them is I won't let them down.

"On the contrary I urge the management of the club to see it as a matter of urgency to do the needful and provide the team the facilities it needs to getting better results. They know what we need to enhance our performances as I have told them from the on set.

"I won't stress much about our needs again or remind them, rather I would be hoping, waiting and believing that by the weekend the management would have done the needful.

"Also all hands must be put on desk with the aim of moving the team forward and returning it to its glory days of Iwayanwu Nationale."

See Why NWFL Postpone Wk 5 League Games

Due to the inability of all the 14 NWFL Premiership clubs to meet up with the directives of the NWFL Secretariat on Covid-19 test for players and team officials, the board of the Nigeria Women Football League headed by Aisha Falode, has declared the postponement of Week 5 matches in order to accommodate collation and validation of the Covid-19 test being conducted by the Premiership clubs.

According to the Chairperson of the NWFL, Aisha Falode, who spoke from her base in Lagos, "The NWFL do not want to take risk with any of the clubs going by the fresh wave of increased Covid-19 infections due to the new variants of the deadly disease which have left more people dead in Nigeria than before."

She added: "We are currently verifying and validating results sent in by some of the 14 clubs not up to half of the clubs in the league.  "We are also going to verify the authenticity of the test centres sent in by the clubs from the Federal Ministry of Health and the relevant state's Ministry of Health, going by the reports that some clubs are going to unapproved centres to conduct the test.

"Tests from unapproved centres will be rejected after verification and the clubs involved suspended from the league.

"The postponement of the league by one week is due to the tasking process of collation and validation. Because of this, the board of the NWFL found imperative to postpone the Week 5 matches to allow the Secretariat complete their job on the ongoing Covid-19 test on clubs concerned."

Falode stressed that: "The board has given enough time to the clubs to complete the test and send results with proof (pictures) from government approved test centres,  to the Secretariat by mail and hard copies (original) on or before Friday 15th January 2021."

Falode, who is also a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation, declared that any club found wanting at the end of the exercise will be suspended from the league indefinitely. And the NWFL may have to take over the testing of all the clubs to avoid any of the clubs putting the league into disrepute.

The NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Faith Ben-Anuge, noted from Abuja, that, that the postponed Week 5 matches will now be played on Wednesday January 20, 2021.

"So, I just want to crave your indulgence to represent Nigeria well. I'm happy that I can see all the players in this U 17 team, I can see that we have the youngest team in this tournament, which of course, I'm very proud of.

"It is a developmental football af this level. It does not mean that we do not want to win. Nigerians wants you to win so that you will be celebrated. We want you to be celebrated, it is very important that we must win. Just work hard and ensure we beat Ghana. The attitude we always display is that we can do it. That is the spirit under my leadership in the Nigeria Football Federation and that is what we expect from you.

"Your coach will tell you the technical and tactical way to achieve winning, but what I will tell you is that you are Nigerians and for you be a Nigerian, you must be positively rugged to achieve your dream," he said.
