Super Eagles: Osun FA Congratulates Finidi George, Urges Him To Be Brave


Osun State Football Association has joined the numerous well wishers in felicitating with Coach Finidi George MON., on his new role as Head Coach of Nigeria Super Eagles


Having gotten the nod by the Technical Department of the Federations, the  Nigeria Football Federations on Monday approved and announced Finidi George as the new gaffer at the helms of affairs of Super Eagles succeeding Jose Peseiro MON.


While sending the congratulatory message on behalf of the association, Osun FA supremo, Mayor Sola Fanawopo urge the new Technical Crew set up to be brave and courageous while delivering the mandate given to them.


"I want to laud the efforts of Nigeria Football Federations under the leadership of Alh. Ibrahim Gusau and the thorough selection carried out by the Technical Department in appointing a well exposed and active coach in Finidi George, it's a right step in right direction.


"Although, there are equally qualified applicants for the plum job, just that everyone can't get the job at the same time, there are time and seasons for everything, we have Finidi on board today in which all and sundry must close rank and support him to excel.


"Finidi has paid his dues on the field and should be supported in the dugout, he has a lot to offer our National Team and by extension, domestic scene. We urge him to run all inclusive system and be brave and courageous going forward. We hereby say a huge congratulations to Finidi George it's a well deserved appointment." Stated Fanawopo, who's revolutionalizing football in Osun State.


Being one of Nigeria's best wingers of all time, George had a glittering career at club and international level.


He won three league titles with Ajax, who he joined in 1993, and also lifted the Uefa Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup with the Dutch giants in 1995. He spent times at Betis, where he was a runner-up in the Copa del Rey in 1997, Mallorca and in England with Ipswich Town.


Finidi is expected to guide the Super Eagles to victory in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic in Uyo and Abidjan respectively.
