Danish Ambassador Rates FC Ebedei Stadium, Sports College Facilities World-Class After Historic Visit



Mr. Jens Ole Bach Hansen, the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, made a significant impact on Monday by expressing his enthusiasm for the remarkable facilities at FC Ebedei Stadium and Ebedei Sports College in Apele-Sagamu. 



This visit marks a groundbreaking moment in Nigerian football history, highlighting the transformative strides being made in the football infrastructure at Ebedei Sports College.


Upon his arrival, Hansen was warmly received by FC Ebedei President Barrister Churchill Oliseh, General Manager, Fredrick Oliseh, and FC Midtjylland's UEFA Pro License coach, Jonas Dal Andersen. 


He embarked on a thorough tour of the multi-million-naira Ebedei Sports College and the FC Ebedei stadium.


Hansen's admiration for the cutting-edge FC Ebedei facility was evident as he commended the Nationwide League One team for their exceptional achievements in upgrading their football infrastructure and talent development . 


He emphasized that: "This world-class facility will undeniably elevate FC Ebedei and Ebedei Sports College's standing on the global football arena. 


"Barrister Churchill Oliseh has made significant contributions to Nigerian football by nurturing grassroots talent and helping them evolve into international stars through his collaboration with Denmark's FC Midtjylland."


Expressing his pride, Oliseh remarked, "The visit from the Danish Ambassador and his team is monumental and will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on FC EBEDEI, the College and its alumni." 


He further emphasized the importance of the FC Ebedei Stadium (Pitches A & B), stating, "This facility is much more than just a venue for matches; it represents the heart of Ebedei Sports College and serves as a training ground for the future stars of football on the global stage. We view this space as a vital asset, showcasing our commitment and progress in keeping up with modern trends in the sport."


The day was concluded with a friendly match held in the Ambassador's honour, where FC Ebedei secured a narrow victory against GreenLock FC, ending the game one-nil in favour of the home team.

 This ambitious initiative aims to provide a platform for young sensations to demonstrate their skills, grit, and passion for the beautiful game, with 16 teams vying for top honors in the competition.


The 'Oodua Cup' is a celebratory gesture marking the 10th year coronation anniversary of His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi CFR, Ojaja II, with the esteemed monarch's legacy infusing the tournament with cultural pride and significance. According to the Osun State Football Association (Osun FA) Secretariat, the stakes are high, with a substantial prize pool of approximately 2.5 million naira up for grabs, ensuring intense competition among the participating teams.


Scheduled to kick off on Saturday, 27th September at OAU Sports Complex in Ile-Ife, the tournament promises to be an exciting spectacle, with matches spread across two venues, Oduduwa College and Ejigbo Township Stadium, accommodating the 16 under-18 teams from across the state. The vision for the 'Oodua Cup' is clear: to unearth hidden gems, foster healthy competition, and propel Osun State's young football talents onto bigger stages.

Hosts Chile forced Nigeria to a 1-1 draw in a friendly match played in the city of Rancagua on Saturday, as part of both teams’ preparations for the 24th FIFA U20 World Cup finals starting seven days from now.


 


Ahmed Akinyele rose above everyone else in the box to head Nigeria in front in the 18th minute, from a corner kick by Tahir Maigana, but Chile drew level 18 minutes later through Felipe Faúndez.


 


Just a minute into the second half, goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt made two big saves to keep scores even.


 


Abduljelil Kamaldeen, Kparobo Arhieri and Auwal Ibrahim came in as substitutes for Nigeria in the second period.


 


The Flying Eagles will take on the Australia U20 team in another friendly match on Tuesday.

Head Coach Moses Aduku says his team will go all out against their Rwandan counterparts in Sunday’s 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup second round, first leg qualifying tie in Kigali.


 


“We have had the opportunity to watch the Rwandan girls in their first-round games against Zimbabwe, and we now have an idea of how they play. We will devise strategies to neutralize them and then go for victory.


 


“We are happy to be playing the first leg away, but at the end, what matters is the effort put into every match, not necessarily the venue. I know the quality of players I have in my team, and I have confidence in them.”


 


Sunday’s match at the Kigali-Pele Stadium will start at 3pm Rwanda time (2pm Nigeria time).

The Smartcity Osun State Football League kicked off with a thrilling start, as Ejigbo FA set the tone with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Telu FC from Iwo. Yusuf Abideen netted a brace for Ejigbo FA, showcasing their resilience and attacking prowess. Telu FC's Agu Philip scored a consolation goal, but Ejigbo FA's late pressure proved decisive, leaving fans elated as the full-time whistle blew. The win marked a promising beginning for Ejigbo FA in the league.


The spotlight then shifted to the electrifying derby clash between Ayedire Utd and Ileogbo Utd, where Ileogbo Utd stormed to a commanding 5-0 triumph, etching an unforgettable performance into spectators' memories. Daini expressed enthusiasm for collaboration, saying, "I commend the FA for initiatives giving young talents a platform to shine. The Sports Council is eager to partner with the FA to achieve shared goals. I'm impressed by these youngsters' God-given abilities, they're poised for greatness." 

He also highlighted efforts to address sports funding challenges, mentioning a robust database initiative and Osun State Sports Trust Fund introduced by Governor Adeleke to ease financial pressures. Attention now shifts to Osogbo and Ilesha Centre this weekend for week 1 matchups.

The General Manager of Osun State Sports Council, Mr Ademola Daini, has reaffirmed his unwavering backing for Osun Babes FC as they pursue their quest for promotion to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership. Brimming with optimism, Mr Daini pledged his support during a meeting with team officials at his office today, emphasizing that achieving promotion is a collective endeavor requiring unity and a shared purpose among all stakeholders.


"Promotion back to the Premiership demands a concerted effort; it’s a task for everyone involved – not just the Team Manager, Club Secretary, or Head Coach, but every official and player," Mr Daini stated. He underscored the importance of cohesion, stressing that collective harmony is vital for success. "I want to assure you that Governor Adeleke and Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi are your foremost supporters, offering their unreserved 100% backing. Your welfare is a top priority for them."


Expressing high expectations for the team, Mr Daini said, "We anticipate Osun Babes FC secures promotion back to the Premiership – we have immense faith in your abilities. Executive Vice Chairman of GreenLock Football Academy, Funsho Peters, has outlined the academy's objectives and ambitions.


The academy held its official inauguration ceremony last weekend at the Navy Sports Complex in Satellite Town, Lagos. 


“It’s been about a year and a half now, although it feels like it has been 10 years or more. I’m excited to see what we can achieve moving forward.


"The GreenLock Academy has both residential and non-residential players. We aim to share our football knowledge to help the sport grow across Lagos. 


"Talent and children who join the academy will also have the opportunity to successfully complete their education, as we have established agreements with top schools in Satellite Town where our players can continue their studies.


"Their development doesn’t stop here; the best players will have opportunities to showcase their skills at the international level."


“We will be competing in the NLO, and I'm eager to see how we perform. My focus is on taking it one game at a time.


"While it would be wonderful for the GreenLock Academy to be promoted to the next tier league in Nigeria, what matters most to me is ensuring these players are fully prepared to compete at the next level when the opportunity arises."

Second Orumogege Football Competition to kick off September 8 - Amos Ado

 



The prize money for the second edition of the Orumogege Football Competition, which features grassroots teams, has been announced.


This tournament, which includes both male and female teams, is set to begin on September 8 and is held in honour of the Soun of Ogbomosoland Orumogege III, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye.


Amos Adewale Ado, the chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), stated that a substantial cash prize of ₦1,000,000 will be awarded to the champion in each category. The runners-up will receive ₦500,000 each, while the third-place teams (both male and female) will each earn a consolation prize of ₦250,000.


The primary goal of the tournament is to promote sports in Ogbomoso. Our Royal Majesty is a king who is passionate about sports and views them as a means to foster youth development.


The LOC has also announced the registration details for the age-free football competition, which aims to include 40 teams (both male and female) from within and outside Ogbomosoland.


Participating male teams are required to pay ₦15,000, while female teams will pay ₦10,000 to the Zenith Bank account number provided by the Orumogege Sport Promotion Service. 


Payments should be made in the respective club names, which will be used as references for easy confirmation. Teams can also send proof of payment to a specified WhatsApp number.
