NPFL: Metu ruled out for rest of the season

Chigozirim Metu

Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin FC, winger, Chigozirim Metu is out of the season after suffering a fracture on his tibia, his coach, Henry Makinwa has confirmed.

As informed by club Media on Friday in Ilorin, the turbocharged winger is expected to be out for at least 12 weeks.

The Tibia connects the knee with the ankle bones.

Metu suffered the injury after Kano Pillars' Jamil Jamil's heavy challenge on him during match day 26 NPFL clash in Ilorin Wednesday.

He said the good news is that he will not need surgery but will need POP to assist the injury to heal on time.

"We are not happy with this development and I see this as a setback because the lad is an important part of our plans.

"Injury is part of football and we have to cope with it, but this is one of the periods that we need Chigozirim more.

"The lad is in good condition now and we will do everything to see that he recovers quickly ahead of next season.

There are injuries concern for Makinwa ahead of match day 27 clash with MFM FC of Lagos at the Agege Stadium on Sunday.

The likes Ernest Governor, Martin Ossy, Chukwuebuka Anaekwe, Adeoti Muiz are all struggling for fitness ahead of the match.

Katsina United striker Obinna Eleje on course for more goals.

Obinna Eleje

Katsina United big striker Obinna Eleje has said he has been lifted after his match winner against Niger Tornadoes in midweek action of the NPFL, codedreporter.blogspot.com.ng gathers.

It was the fourth goal in the NPFL this season by the former Enyimba strikers.

"It's a great feeling to score the all-important goal for my team against a stubborn Tornadoes side. This goal will boost my morale and confidence to score more goals as the season progresses,” he said.

"I know I was going to score, that's why I was anxious to come in from the bench.

“My coach Baldwin Bazuaye also told me that the goal is in my body, so I should go in and score and I am very happy I scored that vital goal.

"That was my fourth goal of the season, gradually I am getting closer to my target for the season which is to get a double figure and am very optimistic that I'll reach it soon.”

The energetic striker went ahead to dedicate the goal to his teammates who believe in him.

"I dedicate that goal to my team mates who
believe so much in me and I pray God almighty will continue to strengthen me so I can continue to make them proud,” he concluded.

We fought a balanced squad in Osogbo - Danjuma

Kesiena Ojiyovw 27th minutes strike proved the difference as Osun Babes put hard fighting Nasarawa Amazons to the sword in week nine (9) encounter of the Nigeria Women Premier League.

The table-toppers (Nasarawa Amazons)
approached the game with excellent touches all around the pitch, Almakura girls caused the early scare through their top-scorer Anam Imo but kudos to the host's keeper Linda Jiwuaku for relieving the pressure with a swift sweeper.

Respite came the way of Omoluabi Queens in the 27th minute when Kesiena Ojiyovw scored a rebound past Nwankwo Chioma in goal for the Amazons.

The goal ensured Osun Babes picked their fifth (5th) win of the season and fourth (4th) consecutive victories in successive
games.

The Nasarawa Amazons showed class and flashes stylishly and came close to level the score twice, deep in the second half.

Mathias Josephine almost caught goalkeeper Linda Jiwaku off her line, but her range effort was denied by crossbar.

Deep into extra time, second half, new entrant Emenike Ijeoma almost levelled for the Almakura girls, but her thumping header was saved by Linda Jiwuaku, just seconds before the final whistle was blown. Omoluabi Queen's defender, Sarah Iloduba was adjudged to be the player of the match.

Osun Babes presently occupied second (2nd) spot
on the log with sixteen (16) points from nine (9)
games and will face Pelican Stars next week
wednesday at the U.J Esuene Stadium, Calabar.

" Our opponent today showed a lot of class and their squad was balanced compared to what we mauled in the reverse fixture.

" We came here to win just as we did last season but we met a stiffer opposition in Osun Babes, l want to salute the girls for their wonderful performance. Hard luck prevented us from getting a point here today.

"Although, we were wasteful in front of goals at some point, this has further exposed why l need to go back and work on our scoring instinct." Coach Christopher Danjuma of Nasarawa Amazons spoke to codedreporter.blogspot.com.ng

NNL: Victory delights Agbana

Akanni Seyi

The head coach of Nigeria National League outfit  Nnewi United, Ademola Agbana has heaped praises on his lads for exceptional performance against the bankers from Lagos after their league clash on Wednesday, codedreporter.blogspot.com.ng reports.

First Bank FC were delighted to watch in the early minutes of the contest with excellent foot work and continuous midfield fireworks in an attempt to break the hearts of the home fans.

It takes the effort of a disciplined and well composed defence line marshalled by Tosin Akande and his defensive armies to avert early scares created by the visitors.

Nnewi United point man Ezeali Augustine however drew the first blood in the  26th minutes when he over ran his markers and slotted past the helpless unrushing visiting shot stopper with confidence.

Elum Sochima, increased the tally for his side in the 70th minutes, after seeing his previous attempts being cleared away by the defensive line of the visitor. More goals would have been registered as the momentum swung into the part of Agbana tutored lads but they failed to make some of the glorious chances count.

Coach Agbana turned to Jacob Eke on bench in 86th minutes and the pacy forward justified his inclusion three minutes later with a sublime strike that sent the gallery into wild jubilations.

" My boys played to instructions today as we walloped our visitors with wide goal margin. It's the moment we have been waiting for, to give our fans something to celebrate.

" We shall continue to fight both home and away. The league is becoming furious and interesting, we had earlier forced our visitors to one all draw in the reverse fixture in Lagos", the 'chosen one' as he is fondly called spoke to codedreporter.blogspot.com.ng after the game.

Nigerian club sacks 27 players

The management of Mighty Jets Football Club of Jos on Wednesday said it had sacked 27 players for performing below the club’s expectations codedreporter.com.ng gathers.

Benedict Akwuegbu, the club’s Sporting Director, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Jos that the club management had in the wake of this gone on to recruit 10 others.

He said the move became necessary in order “to create space’’ and strengthen the team to fight for promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL.

The former Super Eagles forward blamed the recent suspension of the club’s head coach, Adams Usman, before the end of the first stanza of the league for the club’s poor performance.

“But we are now optimistic of the club’s chances of gaining promotion to the NPFL at the end of the season.

“The new players will uplift the team spirit as well as hunger for success, two ingredients which were lacking in the team in the first stanza.’’

Akwuegbu said all departments of the team were considered in the club’s recruitment of players in order to give the team a balance.

“Two goalkeepers, one central defender, three midfielders and four attackers were recruited,’’ he said.

NPFL: Late penalty saves Remo Stars

Victor Mbaoma scored 88th minute penalty to salvage a 2-2 draw for his side against in-form Akwa United at the Gateway International stadium in Sagamu on Wednesday.

Remo Stars started the game in top gear and took the lead inside the opening three minutes when Captain Victor Mbaoma headed in a connecting header from a  corner kick.

Akwa United settled in quickly and responded nicely in the 25th minute when Ubong Friday equalised, tapping in Alhassan Ibrahim's cross following a clever exchange of passes between Ifeanyi and Harmony.

The two teams made series of attempts to increase their tally but failed short of hitting the target as the first half ended 1-1

On resumption of play in the second half, both teams continued where the left off in the first half. But it was Remo stars duo of Awoyemi Abiodun and Salefu Ochowechi that rattled Akwa United's woodwork from set pieces.

With ten minutes to the end of the match, striker Musa Newman who was a thorn in the flesh of Remo Stars defenders put pressure on goalkeeper Walbe David whose poor clearance was received by Ifeanyi.

The midfielder's inch perfect pass was brilliantly controlled by Newman who blasted the ball beyond the goalkeeper and into the far post to put the Promise Keepers in front.

But just when Coach Abdu Maikaba boys thought they would be heading back to Uyo with all three points, referee Francis Agbaegbu from Niger State awarded a penalty to the home team.

A pass inside the box hit Ifeanyi on the groin but the  referee pointed to the spot. Victor Mbaoma stepped up to score and rescue a point for the struggling Sagamu based team.

The draw sees Akwa United maintaining their fourth position on the log with 40 points from 25 matches while Remo  Stars still occupied bottom of the table.

The Promise Keepers will next face Enyimba International in Uyo this weekend.

NLO: Board charges clubs to maintain law and order

As stakeholders and football fans at the cradle of football in Nigeria looks forward to the resumption of the league with second round league games, Shola Ogunnowo, the Chief Operating Officer of the Nationwide League One (NLO) has charged clubs in the league to always maintain law and order at the league venues.

Ogunnowo noted that the league has been going on smoothly all across the nation and he really appreciates the efforts of clubs’ officials and all the stakeholders in maintaining decorum at the league venues irrespective of the results favourable or not at the end of 90 minutes.

“It has been a very fruitful first end of first round of league games in the Pipul TV Nationwide League One. There has not been any crisis of violence or disburbances whatsoever and we really want to thank the clubs’ offcials and the fans for maintaining law and order. We want the clubs to continue to maintain peace at the league venues,” Ogunnowo said.

The astute football administrator added that: “We have seen a situation whereby a team like Odic FC of Lagos lost at home and the following weekend, the same team that lost at home  won at away. That is football. A team is capable of winning anywhere if the team plays well and hopefully we will see more of good  football in the league in the second round.”

Ogunnowo also said that the clubs have been very cooperative with the league body and it is hoped that this synergy will continue in the second round, as he also revealed that the Nationwide League is still expecting fund from the sponsors of the league and hopefully the first phase of the fund will be given very soon.

"We are also very happy that the clubs have been cooperative with the league body and hopefully NLO will access the first phase of fund soon to the league from the sponsors and this fund will definately help the clubs in their activities this season," he concluded.

NPFL: We are up for something in Shagamu -Maikaba

As Akwa United Football club look set to confront Remo Stars FC in one of matchday 26  fixtures of the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL on Wednesday in Shagamu, Coach Abdu Maikaba has said that his team will treat their host with respect despite their position on the log.

Musa Newman's goal helped the Promise Keepers to a 1-0 in Uyo when the two teams met in February.

The victory was Akwa United's first win of the season, and the Uyo based side have since grew in confidence, picking good results home and away which has catapulted them to 4th position on the log.

In contrast, Remo Stars have endured a turbulent first season in the elites division resulting in them occupying bottom of the log with 13 matches to the end of the season.

Speaking on his team's preparation ahead of the Wednesday's game, Coach Maikaba emphasized that they will approach the game with the desire to win.
"We are fully prepared for this match. We will go into the match with strong determination to win. The match will be tough because the first leg in Uyo was a very tough match".

" Remo Stars may be bottom of the table, but their performance on the field of play does not really justify their position. We have thirteen matches to go and Remo Stars will want to fight till the end to avoid relegation. So we are not going to approach the match with the mentality that we are playing a bottom placed team, but with the mindset that we are facing a team who is on a mission".

"As they are on a mission to survive relegation, we are equally on a mission to make it to the top. So we will be hoping to pick the maximum three points because at this stage, every single point is crucial for us".codedreporter can obtain.

The Promise Keepers will be motivated by their goal scoring prowess which has seen them scored 14 goals in eight matches while conceding only three.

Victory against Remo Stars on Wednesday will push the 2015 Federation Cup champions into the top three and also boosts their confidence as they continue their quest for a maiden league title.

Everyday is a war in Osun United - Udi

Akanni Seyi

Duke Udi speaks for the first time in six
months as an outsider, his coaching philosophies, high and lows in Osun United, codedreporter exclusively gathers, enjoy.

“My philosophy is this, when l was playing, l was a stubborn player, and it doesn’t take me to anywhere. So when l came into coaching, l said to my self that the best way l can give back to society is for me to speak stubbornness out of players under my tutelage. The best way to live a good life is to be disciplined, undisciplined career fathom a waste destiny.

“When l came to Osun United, I preached the philosophy of merit, the successful clubs in the country today didn’t joke with merit. The club like Enyimba will not take indigene as the head coach, an indigene will like to please anyone in order not to offend anybody, an outsider usually puts the club first. When l came in to this team, I told my players that everyone must  work hard for them to justify their staying with the team, everyone knows me, l play people on merit and that has been my wave guard, ‘merit over origin’, if you are from Togo and you can play more than my siblings, l choose to play the Togolese,” he confirmed.

On welfarism, Udi has this to say;

“I like to inform you that, l can say I was too lucky in Osun United. Right from the interview process during the recruitment, they told me categorically that the state was experiencing paucity of funds, that would l be able to cope with the situation on ground? l said no problem, in fact one of the interviewers was shocked and told me to go when he heard the salary l collected in Enugu Rangers, saying that Osun cannot afford to even pay half of the money. I told them that, l love challenges because it motivates me, that’s why l applied for the job and that answers it all.

“I was lucky because the management were good to me, salaries were being paid regularly, they might not be big but the salary was being paid promptly in fact they didn’t owe any body including me, they didn’t owe me a dime, so l was lucky. Secondly, government didn’t interfere with the team because, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi represents the club and relates with the government very well. The management is so supportive to me. The current president, Engr. J. Olayemi has the heart of the team, what a nice man he was. It was so emotional when l wanted to leave because we built the team together from day one; I and my players are one family.

“Up till now, l do call my players that see, we must be promoted because of the love and not because of the money. l was the most happiest man on earth on Wednesday when the team got away draw in Lagos against AS Racine because l was following the game minute by minute. Seyi l must not lie to you, Chief Ogunjobi is the bedrock of the team that l can always trust, he told me that the technical matters should be decided solely by me and l thank him for that. He is a rare administrator, a wise man with common sense per excellence, he never imposed any player on me, everything in my contracts, Osun United gave me.

“When you see the young men that wanted to work, we must encourage them, l wish the management can work on match bonus for the team because this little encouragement will catapult the team. I pray and hope that the management should include the match bonus no matter how little it is. Where l am at the moment, match bonus is in place, players collect fifty thousand naira for winning away game and its one hundred thousand naira for the coaches. That’s something because these lads knew they were playing for something. The government was wonderful and they have done a lot but l hope the match bonus will be added in the package soonest,” he revealed further.

On the impending team coach, the ex- international gave his candid opinion.

“When l was unveiled in Governor’s office back then, l told the journalists that l wasn’t a magician but everybody will work. Even here, l use to refer them to Osun United that if you don’t train, you won’t play and without you we will win lose or draw. The players l left behind used to call me that the rigorous training they undergo nowadays is harder than my training programs, l said fine, it means you are preparing than me and it shows that they are sustaining the legacy. I left capable assistants but the management must chose a leader, four of them cannot be the leaders at the same time. We cannot have five presidents in a country, I told them when l was leaving, there may not be money to bring a coach now, but the management must choose the leader that will lead by example.

“Whoever chosen must put the team first, for my five months over there, every day is a war, l visited my house in lbadan twice for five months. Because of the job l love, l fought every day for us to get somewhere, we don’t have superstar in our team unlike Sunshine, for me, the coaches must work together and fight for the team every day.
The philosophies of how we worked should be sustained, l won’t lie to you, those coaches were capable because we worked hard. There must be consistency in the team, no team can beat Osun United 3- 0, be it home or away, we will battle you, l can say it anywhere. It’s the same philosophy l brought here in Akure, lf Osun United with paucity of fund cannot fail, l don’t see the reason why Sunshine should fail.

“The Fans club and Supporters club in Osun United must be harmonized to work together for the betterment of the team. Supporters’ club chairman Alhaji Risky met me and prayed for me when l was leaving that they are happy for the promotion that came my way. Although, some sections were too emotional to see my imminent departure as a betrayal. Risky said, for them it’s a pride for their coach leaving for a bigger team. It’s normal when you are doing a good job, people will not allow you to go, and that’s how it is all over the world. Assuming l was bad, a lot of people will be singing and dancing, honestly, it’s wasn’t easy for me but we are all professional and we must move on. When l was leaving my player, l felt it personally because we are like a family doing good job together. If they continue how we used to work together, l know they will not miss me.”

On what he would have done better and added to the team before he left;

“I’d love to see more promising talents feature in my team prominently, look at our reserve goalkeeper,Nurudeen Lateef ‘Kerosene’. When our first choice got injured, he proved his mettle convincingly. When we engaged FC Ebedei in a test game, Barrister Chuchill Oliseh was furious after the game because we white washed them, he said why did you beat my team with wide goal margin, since you’ve never defeated us more than a goal before, l laughed and told him that Osun United level has been raised considerably. Kerosene and the likes should be encouraged because they have a great future ahead of them. Again, l would have loved to see my boys earning match bonuses. If I am opportune to meet His Excellency, Ogbeni Aregbesola, I will plead with him to please add match bonuses for the lads. See, with this in place, these boys can go miles,” he told codedreporters.blogspot.com.ng

Duke Udi however expressed his appreciation to the management, officials, players, team Media, supporters and fans. He specially applauded the journalists for criticizing his decisions objectively and making the experience a worthwhile for him.

Duke Udi will be in charge when Sunshine FC takes on MFM FC of Lagos in Soccer Temple Agege on Wednesday in one of the match day 26 of the Nigeria Professional Football League. He has the mandate to steer the club out of the relegation.

Adeoti resumes training after long injury lay off

Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin FC midfielder, Muiz Adeoti, has returned to training after seven months injury lay off.

Adeoti took part in the Saraki Boys' training on Thursday with jogging but was fully involved on Friday.

It would be recalled that the midfielder underwent  a successful surgery on a fractured toe in a private hospital in Lagos on Tuesday, March 28.

Adeoti told the club Media on Saturday that he is delighted to be back with the team and he is working hard to justify a place in the Henry Makinwa's young team.

"It was a very difficult moment for me but I thank God I'm out of it now.

"No pain since I started training on Thursday and I pray there won't be any setback by God grace.

"I want to thank everyone for the support during the period I was nursing my injury.

"All I want now is to start playing again because I cannot wait to play and help the team to a good position on the log" Adeoti said.

Speaking on Adeoti's return, ABS Coach Henry Makinwa, said the midfield maestro returned at a time the team needed him most.

He said the technical crew will work on him to regain match fitness because he has weighed 6 kilo more than before the injury.

"He should start playing in two weeks only if he works hard or else, it will be next season.

"The fear of the injury still linger on his face but I trust him he should overcome that part of him" Makinwa said.

The Saraki Boys are billed to lock horns with Kano Pillars on Wednesday in Ilorin, after which they make a trip to Lagos to battle MFM FC on Sunday, July 2.
