NFF Elective Congress now to hold September 27

 

This year’s Elective Congress of the Nigeria Football Federation, earlier scheduled for Saturday, 26th September in Lafia, capital city of Nasarawa State, has now been moved by 24 hours.

 

The Elective Congress, which will usher in members into the Executive Committee of the NFF for the next four years, will now take place in the same city on Sunday, 27th September.

 

At an extraordinary general assembly of the NFF held virtually on Wednesday, President of NFF, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau MON, explained that the request for date-change was necessitated by the date given for the Super Eagles’ opening qualifying match for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, against Madagascar’s Barea.

 

Following interactions with the Confederation of African Football, the date agreed for the match is Friday, 25th September 2026. Obviously, it will be highly impossible for a number of candidates in the election, who will be at the match, to make it to Lafia the following morning in time for the Elective Congress.

 

Gusau added that it was on the need to consider this situation that the NFF Executive Committee called for the extraordinary general assembly, to put forward a proposal for the Elective Congress to now take place in Lafia, Nasarawa State on Sunday, 27th September 2026.

 

A member of the Congress moved a motion in line with the proposal, and it was immediately seconded, putting a seal on the new date.

Staff includes FIFA/CAF/UEFA licensed coaches, qualified educators, sports medical professionals, and support staff. Dormitories are comfortable, with four students per room, high-speed internet, laundry, and nutritious meals.

Students participate in competitive local, national, and international matches and tournaments, training tours gaining skills and exposure for potential careers.

Applicants aged 13-17 must apply and undertake an entrance exams in academics and football. A levei of talent, insight and motivation is  a PRE-REQUISITE

Debutants Malawi produced one of the biggest shocks in the history of women football in Africa when they defeated 10-time champions Nigeria 3-2 in Rabat’s Al Madina Stadium on Tuesday night.

 

Despite dominating early on and creating several scoring opportunities, the Super Falcons were unable to break the deadlock in a goalless first half.  The match exploded into life in the final twenty minutes. Malawi took the lead in the 73rd minute through Temwa Chawinga, before her sister, Tabitha Chawinga, doubled the advantage six minutes later.

 

Skipper Rasheedat Ajibade gave Nigeria hope in the 90th minute by converting a penalty, but Temwa Chawinga struck again deep in stoppage time (90+6’) to restore Malawi’s two-goal cushion.

 

A goal nine minutes into added time, assisted by a headed ball on the right, by substitute Uchenna Kanu brought the scoreline to 3-2, but time ran out for the Cup-holders to complete the comeback.

 

With Barbara Banda-led Zambia pumping six goals past Egypt in the opening match of Group C also on Tuesday, the Super Falcons will immediately turn their attention to their second Group C fixture against the rampant Zambians on Saturday, where maximum points will be essential to put their qualification drive back on track.

Super Falcons Stand United: NFF Condemns Racist Abuse Directed At Esther Okoronkwo Ahead Of WAFCON Opener

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued a stern statement strongly condemning the "unacceptable racist abuse" directed at Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo on social media. 

The disturbing online attacks occurred in the wake of a recent incident at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca, Morocco, which served as the national team's pre-WAFCON training camp. The squad spent 10 days at the facility before moving to Rabat, where they will play their three group matches. 

In its official release, the NFF provided definitive clarity on the hotel situation that preceded the online harassment. The federation confirmed that the individual responsible for a theft at the team's camp was swiftly apprehended by authorities. Justice was served promptly, with the perpetrator made to return the stolen cash in full before being sentenced to six months in prison.

Given the swift legal resolution of the crime, the NFF expressed absolute bewilderment and outrage at the unwarranted backlash against their forward. 

"The racist abuse and emojis directed at our player make absolutely no sense," the NFF stated, firmly reiterating that "discrimination in any form has no place in football or society". The governing body underscored that the safety, dignity, and overall well-being of its players remain its utmost priority.

Despite the unsettling off-field distraction, the morale within the Nigerian camp appears unbreakable. The NFF assured supporters that the entire Super Falcons squad stands united and is completely unbothered by the external noise. 

With the legal matter firmly handled, the reigning African queens remain fully focused on the task at hand , Tuesday's opener against Malawi.

Adeleke’s Commissioner Urges President Tinubu To Ensure Free, Fair Election In Osun Ahead Of August 15 Poll

The Osun State Commissioner for Political Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations, Hon. Biyi Odunlade, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and guarantee a free, fair and credible governorship election in Osun State on August 15.

Odunlade made the appeal on Wednesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Guest Platform in Osogbo, where he alleged that deliberate efforts were being made to intimidate voters and undermine democracy in the state.

According to him, the lingering crisis in the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, is being “orchestrated and programmed” to create fear and suppress voter turnout.

“The crisis in the NURTW is orchestrated. It is organised to hijack power from the sitting government by creating fear and instability. The aim is to intimidate voters and create an atmosphere where people will be afraid to come out and vote,” he alleged.

The commissioner claimed some political actors plan to “start from the markets” on election day because “market women are easily frightened.”

“I asked an APC member what their strategy was. He told me once they hear gunshots, ordinary voters who have no political affiliation will stay away from polling units. That is dangerous for democracy,” Odunlade said.

He also faulted the alleged non-neutrality of federal security agencies in the state.  

“There is hardly any security committee meeting that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, attends personally. He always sends representatives. At a time when security is critical, especially ahead of an election, that should not be the case,” he added.

Odunlade further accused the Federal Government of double standards in handling local government allocations, citing President Tinubu’s past legal battle for Lagos when he was governor.

“When President Tinubu was Governor of Lagos State, he went to court over withheld allocations and eventually got justice. Today, Osun State’s allocation has been withheld, yet the same sympathy is not extended to the state. We are asking for consistency and fairness,” he said.

The commissioner urged the President to allow Osun people to decide their next governor without external interference.
