OSF 2021 Football Event: Irewole, Orolu, Ifelodun Shine In Matchday 1

The zonal elimination round of the football event of the ongoing Osun Sports Festival produced scintillating performances across four centres on Monday, September 27 as the remaining 12 Local Governments jostled for qualification into the knock stage of the glamorous competition, first if its kind in the South West.

It was a walk in the park at Odo Otin Grammar School, Okuku for Irewole LG FC as they dismantled Ife South LG with an outstanding 4-1 victory.

Agbaje Bolaji opened the scorers' sheet in the 5th minute for the "Osun West Side" while Lasisi Azeez doubled the lead 3 minutes later. Ife South rallied to half the deficit through Gbamila Olalekan in the 14th minute to raise their hope, which was however dashed in the 42nd minute by Ogunleye Abideeen who poached-in the third.

Toyese Lateef stretched the victory gap beyond the reach of Ife South as he completed the ruthless beating in the 59th minute by adding the 4th goal for Irewole to sit comfortably on the log of Group A.

In Ikire, it was a bumper to bumper game between Odo Otin and Ejigbo Local Government who finished the game with 10 men each. While Salako Blessing put Odo Otin ahead in the 40th minute, Ejigbo equalised in the 56th minute and added the second in the 80th minute for a 2-1 win to coast home the maximum 3 points.

At the College of Education, Ila Orangun, Sulaimon Lateef's 25 yard powerful volley was enough to hand the deserved victory to Orolu Local Government over the hard-figting Ede North FC. The goal which came in the 63rd minute was enough for "Benson Boys" to stay top of group C.

In a related result, Ifelodun LG continued their fine form from the first round as they hammered their Isokan LG opponents with 2 unreplied goals. The goals were scored by Gotie Taofiq in the 4th and 55th minutes.

Matches continue tomorrow Tuesday, September 28 across four centres. In Group A, Isokan will battle Ife East at the C & S Grammar School, Ilesha while Group B match paired Ilesha West and Irewole in a titan clash billed foe Odo Otin Grammar School, Okuku.

In the same vein, Boripe will host Orolu in the Group C encounter holding at College of Education, Ila Orangun while Oriade will engage Odo Otin in the Group D encounter slated for St. John's Grammar School, Ikire.
