Confederation of African Football (CAF), President Ahmad Ahmad is confident that the Super Eagles of Nigeria can win the World Cup in Russia next year.

Ahmad Ahmad who was in Nigeria over the weekend for an emergency football stakeholder meeting and also the AITEO Cup finals said the Eagles can make history by going far in the tournament and eventually win the glamorous mundial.

"Nigeria is the strongest team from Africa going to the World Cup, hence much is expected of the Super Eagles in Russia next year.

"We are expecting so much from Nigeria as they head to Russia. Amaju Pinnick ( President, Nigeria Football Federation) has done so much for the country by supporting the change in CAF and to qualify Nigeria for the World Cup.

"Nigeria need to reciprocate all the support by doing well in the World Cup," Ahmad Ahmad concluded.

Nigeria became the first African country to qualify for next year's mundial in Russia, after defeating Zambia by a lone goal courtesy of Alex Iwobi's second half strike.
Nigeria have reached the second round in the past which happened thrice in 1994, 1998 and 2014.
