NNL: Why season must swiftly resume after the pandemic-Ekiti Utd handler

Following the endless break embarked upon by Nigeria National League NNL, the head coach of Ekiti based NNL outfit Ayodeji Ayeni has submitted that, any attempt to cancel the hibernating league would make the organiser look gloomy.

Recall that several attempts have been made for the league to resume but it is believed that there is no wherewithal to restart.

Some sections of fans fans have advised that the league should be cancelled and the leaders of each group should automatically find themselves in NPFL.

"No l don't subscribe to that, the league should resume after the pandemic shutdown. If the league should be cancelled, then we conclude that there's no progress in the league." Ayeni told FUBF.

LMC chairman Sheu Dikko has made it known last week that cancelling the league after 5 matches is not a way to go. "We all know that the LMC has always been concerned as the apex league to ensure the welfare and sustainability of the leagues below the pyramid, NNL inclusive.

"We use to offer our support, both financially and regulatory when we can to ensure they keep working. So just before the suspension of football activities we were all locked in serious conversation led by NFF President and hugely supported by the Minister to ensure we got everything back on track not just for NNL but other leagues”. Dikko Said.

Ayeni, who managed to turn Cynosure FC to a force to reckon with  however suggests way out for the organisers. "The board of NNL can further devise another means of completing the league may be resulting to play the league on zonal basis in a round robin format." He concluded.
