Aiteo Cup: Ayo Ojo's wonder gloves saves Osun United

A stellar performance from Osun United wonder goalie, Ayo Ojo during the penalty shoot out ensured Osun United advanced to round of sixteen (16) of the federations Cup presently known as Aiteo Cup at the expense of the experienced and NPFL bound opponent, Kwara United FC.


The encounter was a  nerve wracking one at the Osogbo City Stadium as both teams came to party with determination and utmost concentration to advance into the next round.


The home team dominated the proceeding in the first stanza with brilliant foot-work in midfield orchestrated by Dare Olatunji, Hakeem Olalere and Jide Fatokun.


Kwara United defenders were absolutely spectacular in containing the pressure posed by the likes of Tosin Omoyele and Yusuf Aderemi. Chinedu Emmanuel would have sent the home fans into jubilation but he couldn't make his chance count.


Hakeem Olalere let fly at the edge of the box after collecting a flick from Dare Olatunji only for Tosin Omoyele to arrive late for a simple tap in towards the tale end of the first half.



Nigeria National League top scorer, Michael Ohanu,  Segun Alebiosu and Solomon Owello combined well to stretch the defence line of the home team but Ayo Ojo came to the rescue of his side in the early minutes of the second half.

Deep into the second half, John Obuh's boys were showing some intents upfront. Both sides later reshuffle their packs in search of the opener but no goal was registered, Adeyemi Adeyeye who was introduced later in the second half could not convert some glorious chances that came his way as Michael Ohanu remains the outlet of counters at the other end in the pulsating encounter.


The game ended goalless as center refree Nura Abdullahi from Zamfara stopped the proceeding at the regulation time.


Straight into penalty shoot out, Segun Alebiosu and Stephen Alfred of Kwara United couldn't shoot past Ayo Ojo who was adjudged to be man of the match in the evening. Mamud Akorede's spot kick on the other hand was denied by woodwork to bury the game but Omoluabi Giants had to wait for Hakeem Olalere's last kick in which he sent Eze Chidibere the wrong way to advance.
