Katsina United battle Lobi Stars for cup glory

Lobi Stars and Katsina United will today trade tackles in a re-arranged Aiteo Cup Round of 64 at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi.

This match was initially rescheduled to Wednesday due to ill health of Katsina United players, but it has now been moved to today because of Lobi Stars league match that has been scheduled for Friday, August 25.

This will be the third time these two teams are clashing in the ongoing season.

They have clashed twice in the league with Katsina United having the upper hand after they drew one and won the second encounter.

‘The Chanji Boys’ crashed out of this prestigious and oldest Nigeria football tournament last season in the Round of 16 after they were defeated by eventual winners FC IfeanyUbah 2-1.

They had earlier defeated MFM in the Round of 32 1-0 to qualify for the Round of 16.

Lobi Stars, on the other hand, could not make it to the Round of 16 last season.
They will therefore want to do everything possible to ensure that they qualify for the next round this season under new coach Solomon Ogbeide.

The fact that they are playing at home is an added advantage to them.

Meanwhile, Katsina United, who lost narrowly their last league game to Rangers, will come out smoking so as to get a result.

Katsina United star striker Chinedu Udechukwu could not train with the rest of the squad yesterday due to an ankle sprain he suffered at Rangers on Sunday.

“We have come to Makurdi to pick something and we will do our best to make sure that we make Katsina people proud,” declared Adah Joseph.

“We are very familiar to this ground, we have picked a point here in the league and we are here to prove to them that the positive result we picked here in the league was not a fluke.”
