AITEO Cup: Yakub Hammed sent Crown FC packing.
Premier league side, Abia Warriors football club of Umuahia have qualified for the second round of this year's AITEO Cup after they overcame difficult-to-play Crown FC of Ogbomosho 1-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium, codedreporter.blogspot.com.ng gathers.
Star midfielder, Yakub Hammed, who joined Abia Warriors from Crown this season, dealt the big blow on his former side with a well-taken goal in the 18th minute but he did not celebrate the goal in honour of his former team mates.
The goal brought out the best in Crown, semi-finalist in last year's contest as they invaded Abia Warriors vital area and could have drawn level but for the agility of Warriors goalkeeper, Chinedu Anozie who prevented Afolabi Timothy, Oseni Usman and Isah Saidu from making hay.
At the other end, Abia Warriors' Ndifreke Effiong, Chinenye Agoha and Shedrack Asiegbu also had the opportunity to increase the tally but could not put their acts together .
With FIFA badged centre referee, Hannah Elaigu at the top of her game, the spectators had a full doze of good football as she interpreted the laws of the game to the best of her knowledge irrespective of whose ox was gored.
With both coaches, Abdullahi Usman Biffo of Abia Warriors and his Crown counterpart, Raheem Tajudeen effecting some substitutions, the game became even more interesting with equal forays.
However, Chinedu Anozie ensured the game did not go into the lottery of penalties when he made a one-handed save in the last second of the four-minute injury time to keep off a well-taken shot by Crown's Folorunso Saadu.
