Delta State wins 3rd National Youth Games



Delta state have emerged winners of the 2017 National youth Games, which ended in Ilorin on Saturday.

Team Delta won 21 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze medals to retain the title they won in 2016. Akwa Ibom state with 16 gold , 15 silver and 15 bronze were second, while  Ondo state came third with 12 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze.

The minister of youth and sports development, Solomon Dalung, said 2,934 athlete's competed in 135 events at youth games.

The minister spoke during the closing ceremony of the NYG tagged UNILORIN 2017, which was held in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.
The minister commended the management and officials of UNILORIN for hosting the three editions of the NYG.

The Kwara State Governor represented by secretary to the state Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold said Kwara will reiterates commitment to grassroot sports development and urged athlete's who took part in the Games to make best of the opportunities provided by the Games.

He congratulated the Minister for youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung and his team for maintaining and sustaining the Games and urged them to continue with the tempo for sports development in Nigeria.
Kwara state finished fourth with 10 gold ,10 silver and nine bronze medals.
