Alimi stars as Akure gunners humbled El Kanemi Warriors



Sikiru Alimi scored the only goal as Sunshine Stars FC edge Kanemi Warriors FC in a week 31 fixture of the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) played at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode as gathered by codedreporter.blogspot.com.ng


Alimi headed home in the 34th minute from a Nojeem Raji's long range free kick amidst confusion in the Warriors back line to hand Stars the advantage.


A game that saw few chances sparked to life moments after Alimi's goal with Chibuzor Okonkwo afterward the first to draw a save from Sunshine Stars goal keeper, Henry Ayodele from a well taken free kick. Henry's opposing figure, Agbokou Judickael was also at the end of things minutes later, this time Ezekiel Thompson came calling just inside the area but the Warriors custodian made a smart save to deny Stars a second goal.


Yahuza Bala who tormented his former side greatly during the game almost restore parity for Warriors before the break after cutting in from the right flank to unleash a fierce shot that was parried by Henry with Oke Ogagetawho on ground to make a final clearance from the goal mouth.


The home side continued their dominance in the second half but could not find a break through needed to extend their lead, while the Desert Warriors launched series of unsuccessful reprisal attacks in search of equaliser all through the final half.


In the end the Akure Landlords closed out the game for their fourth win in five matches to put a day light between them and the bottom four and moved up to 11th position on the NPFL log.


"lt's a good things that we are no longer talking about relegation but we shall continue to size our shoulders and aim higher. Finishing strong is my top priority now.  The players are very much aware what is at stake Now, we can't afford to dissapoint the government and great people Ondo State." Sunshine Stars will face Wikki Tourists in Bauchi while El Kanemi Warriors return to Maiduguri to host Akwa United in week 32 pairings on NPFL next match day.
