Bashir's Strike Tame Unlucky Stars

Sunshine Stars FC have their luck to rue as Abdulrahman Bashir's first half goal helped Nasarawa United FC secured victory against the Akure Landlords in a week 29 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) tie at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode on Sunday.

Bashir's 39th minute strike was the only effort that had the net bubbled in a game Sunshine Stars FC dominated from start to finish before a cheering group of spectators and fans for the first time in five home fixtures.

The dominant Stars who succeeded in confining the Solid Miners to their own half almost all through the second period came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock on different ocassions through Sikiru Alimi, Ajibola Otegbeye, Sunday Abe and arguably the man of the match, Dayo Ojo, but were denied repeatedly by the woodwork.

United's goalkeeper, Suraj Ayeleso will later make a superb stoppage time save to deny Sunshine Stars FC a certain equaliser off Thompson Ezekiel's volley, before Bashir squandered a glorious chance to get his second of the day in a game that the referee exhibited firmness and fairness all through.

Sunshine Stars who failed to score for the first time in seven consecutive matches next face Rivers United FC at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium on Wednesday in NPFL week 30 pairing.
